Disappointing signings

Let’s get it out the system…

Connolly
I can’t tell you how gutted I am about this.

He was brilliant at Wimbledon. He came with a reputation of being difficult. He wasn’t he was dedicated and so hard working, his partnership with Neil Shipperley was outstanding.

When we signed him I was ecstatic.

What weird ones to pick out. Vassell was one of those who when we signed him I was disappointed as I had never really rated him but I thought when not injured he looked quality. Yakubu, one goal every other game, not sure how much you want. The signing & playing of PL loanees regardless of form (Bruma, Johnson, Van Anholt) and for signing players who had showed up well against us but were garbage (Mills & Danns) on the other hand.

Nothing to do with Eriksson but Akinbiyi was the single biggest "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" when I heard of his signing and he thoroughly lived up to expectations. As for players who we signed and were disappointing; Ricky Hill, a man who gave the appearance of not only having lost what he had but had forgotten what it was in the first place.
On the day we signed Akinbiyi I got laughed at by Robbie Earle. £5m he was pissing himself.

The other Akinbiyi story is the Trevor Francis one where he kept him out for 1-2-1 finishing session at Palace and the youth were there to help. The kids ended up destroying him as he was SO bad at it.

Palace tried to keep it quiet but it 100% happened.

I worked with a former City apprentice who played for Leicester United ( previously enderby town )
I can't remember who it was, but we signed a player from Luton Town for about 50k, who my mate said was the worst player he had ever seen.

Who was it ?????

Sounds like Rob Johnson from Luton he was bloody awful....

Marc North, Rob Johnson, wouldn't like to say other than I can't recall Marc North being a total wipeout. I don't even remember Rob Johnson

Marc North was cheap as chips when we signed him, but could be used as a utility player under the depressing Pleat days, I couldn't fault him.

Rob Johnson was one of Pleats favourites at Luton played a handful of games when he signed for City very underwhelming to say the least...... similar to Ricky Hill

Just about anyone Eriksson signed. Read them and weep.
Darius Vassell, Yakubu (totally forgot about him and he scored 11 gold apparently), Stephen Hughes, Jeffery Bruma, the list goes in…
Eriksson signings

As for disappointments never liked Ian Walker and Martin Keown was a big let down.
The Portuguese 'keeper Ricardo, he passed me by. I've no recollection of him whatsoever.

Marc North was a good lad, loved a smoke at half time 😂. Played a few times with him, always supportive of skinny kids trying to play in the non league world.

Edgar Davids? Never played for us did he.

Hossein Kaebi?
You're right of course. The club tried to get Davids but couldnt strike a deal after weeks of talks. Dodged a bullet I think as he surely would have been a disappointing signing.
