Hi All, Mickys daughter Carly here. I thought I would update you all on what's going on. As most of you know he was took back into hospital last week with covid and pneumonia and we got a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. I wont go into all of the details about whats happened and how we got to where we are now, but unfortunately he's been declining each day and took a turn for the worse early hours Thursday morning and has made no improvement and declined even more overnight. Sadly the Dr's are in agreement that there is nothing more they can do for him, so he is in palliative care now. I'm so very sorry to have to tell you all this, we were hoping for a bit longer with him. But I am going now to see him and will read out your messages as and when they come through as I know Bentleys Roof has a massive place in his heart. I will update you as and when I can.
Thankyou all for your love and support. Much love, Carly. 💙

Dreadful news! Will miss you Micky, won't be the same around here.

Agree with Stalybridge, this is the worst news possible. Our thoughts are with you Carly. Make the most of your time with the boss of the board.

I'm in pieces here.
He's been such a good mate.
I used to love going over to his place in Earl Shilton to spend the afternoon with him and his Mum & Dad watching the racing on the telly when we lived in Leicestershire.
He's been brilliant with the Roof, the fanzines and his models.
And the Sunday afternoons in the Malt Shovel in Barkby when his mate Dave Freery (RIP) used to bring him over were unforgettable.
Love you Micky.

So sorry to hear this

Crushing news for everyone on here. We are losing a truly remarkable man. Feel honoured to be lucky enough to know him and become a friend. Last saw him at his flat in Burbage in the middle of the week prior to him first being admitted to hospital. No indication as we chatted then as to what was about to come. Overcome with sadness at this moment. My thoughts with his family at what must be a deeply distressing time for them. God bless Micky the Hoss!

This is devastating buck your ideas up my boy l need help with our four legged friends
Don't go silent on me thankyou for your updates truly appreciated

Terrible news, he's going to be so missed, without him the roof wouldn't have existed for so long.
Thoughts are with you Micky & Carly and family.

I was in touch yesterday with channy, Micky's collaborator-in-chief par excellence in the Roof Fanzine who is equally devastated at this desperately sad news. He's on his way to Greece at present but if I may I'll quote from our message exchange: he said "Fuck it, life isn't fair when someone like Mick had to go through what he's been through. And we've had some of the best laughs ever in spite of it".

In return I said "Mick certainly has been dealt a shit hand but his stoicism, incredible determination to carry on despite his cruel disability and his trademark sense of humour are truly remarkable qualities. The Filbo Model aka 'The Eighth Wonder Of The World' truly epitomises the strength of the man". At the time of its painstaking construction I came up with the motto for him 'Vincit qui patitur' - 'He who endures will succeed'. He most certainly did!

Mick and I had many great laughs when we used to go and watch the Boro together back in the day, likewise when going to HMHB concerts.

Put simply the Roof will never be the same again. Thanks for all the unforgettable memories Mick.
