That last point is interesting. UEFA are not being permitted to restrict trade of clubs so can a ESL be structured in a manner that also does not contravene this point? Difficult to understand how a "closed league" would be permissible.Wonder if the BCC's are going to have another go?
The asylum is already run by lunatics - but the ESL is a step too far..
Doubt the ESL would pass competition law criteria either...
The initial proposal collapsed because it was profoundly unpopular with fans and was opposed by national governments, not because of the threats from UEFA and FIFA. This judgement doesn’t change all that much.
Yes it would.Would the Football Governance Bill prevent Premier League clubs, from joining a proposed ESL?
Unless the Saudis offer us more corn.We are collectively committed to the Premier League and recognise our responsibility to support it. We will not engage in the creation of new competitive formats outside the Premier League's rules"
Until like sky they have enough subscribers who can't do without it and they've got you by the short and curlies and charge you up the ying yang for it.ESL are talking about setting up a new TV/streaming platform to make all games free to view.
So where does the money come from? Without money no premier league club will jump.
Lovely Islam . Open your eyes silly cunts.Unless the Saudis offer us more corn.
At the forefront of what!?!and get some real clubs back at the forefront
No. We’re free to ignore the ruling and - according to the Times - the government will do exactly that and block any English clubs from taking part:Do rulings by that court affect the UK?
Yep I hope they do it. Fuck em. Rather see a title that can be won by anyone, not this closed shop of cunts effectively setting the rules to suit themselves and never being punished for any wrong doing. Financial fair play for eg is a fucking rig.. it actually helps bigger clubs rather than capping them because of the revenue situation. Man Utd have been spending like lunatics for years on end now.. buying shit after shit because the rules allow them to because they’re popular amongst sad cunts the world over so the revenue is monstrous.
‘Fair play’ just a hilarious term for what it actually is. Takes so little for smaller clubs to fall foul of the rules comparatively.
The league is probably loving it that everyone is taking aim at Everton when they should be looking at MC and Chelsea and their litany of offences. It’s like the sort of division tactics governments and media employ.
I’m sure the Saudis are rubbing their hands in anticipation
My two-penneth.
This is probably 'as you were' but it does show the massive flaw in how football is run (at least in this country).
There are 3 parts. the players, the teams and the leagues (at whatever level).
The players have the PFA (in the uk) to represent them.
The leagues are represented by the EFL and the PL.
But the teams are not, they are part of the leagues governing structure but not independent of them (i get that collective bargaining is good, but it also leaves open the flawed idea that what's good for the leagues is always good for members).
in an ideal world the FA or other third party body would represent the teams, whilst the EFL and PL would represent the leagues.
However in the PL era the power of the FA has been eroded to literally nothing at the professional level, so we're left with players and leagues (and even the EFL are Oliver asking 'please sir can i have some more' from the PL table)
UEFA uses this to control clubs so that the euro cups could be turned into leagues for money only, to the detriment of domestic leagues (IMO), and they'll brook no competition
This ruling really ought trigger a root and branch reorganization of at least euro football so there is a more balanced structure between the needs of players, teams and leagues, and ultimately, fans who will vote with their feet and eyes if they feel they're been shafted.
Otherwise we'll end up with a LIV style ESL and lots of bad feeling.
It is absolutely being led by these two. They deeply resent the wealth of the leading Premier League clubs and want to create a system that channels more money to themselves. The proposed league would be a virtual closed shop, effectively guaranteeing the participation of certain big clubs no matter how they perform domestically. This removal of risk might appeal to the foreign owners of some of the BCCs, but it’s incredibly unpopular with fans - hence the backlash last time.Villa could be top at Christmas so it’s not exactly a closed shop. Also Villa, West Ham, Brighton all have European football this season the most teams outside the traditional 6 that I can remember.
I agree, this will include Saudi money and probably some of the Saudi teams too. If that happens do they need any teams from our league?
They’ve just done that, the European Cup (Champions League) has a ludicrous one league format from next season, and two extra group games to be played which means more money for UEFA and the clubs. It also means more burn out for the players who are already playing too much football.
I read this may become a midweek league leaving the clubs free to remain in their domestic leagues. Klopp will have a field day moaning about the quantity of matches being played. Add in the extra distances the clubs will travel.
What I am sure of is the 6 BCC’s will all be on calls to discuss this, and probably Newcastle too. I reckon they’ll all want to join as they are all greedy fuckers but it’ll be all of them together or none of them to join. Safety in numbers.
Oh and I still think this is being led by Barcelona and Real Madrid who despite them finding money for major stadium works are still both really skint.
Well they've already agreed to join so it's pretty obvious they would have been involved in the planning of the whole thing. It is absolutely being led by these two.
Title wins by teams that aren’t Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea since 96: 1Villa could be top at Christmas so it’s not exactly a closed shop. Also Villa, West Ham, Brighton all have European football this season the most teams outside the traditional 6 that I can remember.
UEFA rules as you know don't allow govt interference, this is why it's all very murky. will they (the clubs) resign from uefa to join a LIV style league.Wouldn’t the government attempting to block/ban/stop clubs entering such a competition be a restriction on trade?
Can HMGov really do that?
