One of the very few men associated with Spuds that I genuinely loved. He was a very decent player as borebage says even in his latter days at QPR. If Gazza’s left leg had have been an inch longer I reckon El Tel would have won us Euro 96. He also nearly and should have gone into Barca’s history as an all time great if they’d have beaten Steura Bucharest in Seville to win their first EC in 86.

I think there’s an element of truth to this - I’d heard it was £200k, but such was Mark Goldberg’s desperation, he went along with it…
