Sunak pushes back ban on petrol/diesel cars til 2035 .....

If you’re referring to Ford then they can go and fuck themselves, they didn’t give a shit about the UK when they moved production abroad and they have the rest of the world to flog their EVs in. (When they finally make a practical one)

This topic could be moved to the conspiracy site...imo this is an actual example of a shadowy cabal of people, who genuinely have the power to interfere in a nations politics.

These oil and gas companies have know for 50+ years the effect of burning fossil fuels but huried the evidence. Still today they are pulling the strings. Never mind the world literally burning over the summer in every continent...we still can't transition to cleaner (and, more importantly for you and I, cheaper) sources of fuel. Madness.

He’s putting right a daft idea. We have to change but it has to be done by encouragement. People will buy EVs when they’re a proper alternative to the combustion engine. It will come but it has to be technology led and not forced on us by ideology and certainly not by being mugged by big car manufacturers trying to flog us sub standard products because of a daft time scale imposed by politicos

No-one is forcing you to do anything. Not for 7 years at least, and even after that you'll still be able to buy your beloved combustion . Maybe you're in the lucky position to buy a brand new car, but majority of people buy second hand. Anyway, from 2030 almost all OEMs will have moved to full electric anyway as that is what the rest of the world are doing. This is just another example of Britain retreating.

Tesla has been the top selling brand consistently this year, so looks like the majority have already made their decision.

I remember when Tories took pride in being called the party of business. Now they seem determined to piss off business by setting them on one path, only to move the goalposts once the companies are balls deep invested along the other path....weird.

Some people will always be stuck in their ways and reluctant to change, even at a cost to the enviroment.

Tesla is not the best selling brand

Tesla is not the best selling brand

Hot off the press my friend...look at the 6th story down (need a subscription to read it)...headline "Tesla Model Y powers toward being No. 1-seller for 5th time in 8 months".

4.7% market share in the UK.

All the forward thinkers will still be able to buy EVs all that has changed is the rest of us won’t be forced to buy them

Maybe now the manufacturers will start to develop good EVs instead of thinking they can force any old crap on their customers with the help of legislation

The EV market in the UK is dominated by those who can get tax breaks through owning through their own business and the corporate market.

The average man on the street can't afford them. Not that people should buy new that often anyway.

It's much better for the environment to make your car last until it's ready for the knackers yard. Less new production equals less embodied carbon. Much more environmentally friendly but in this country we like to show off in nice shiny new things.

And driving an old shitheap is fucking cool.

I had my previous car for 17 years, and it was 7 years old when i bought it.
My current car should see me through to my mid 70s.

It takes a long time to build a new power station and then install thousands of miles of high voltage cables, new substations and high current charging points in everyone's house.

When the electricity providers have us by the balls with no competition from other sources do you think the price will be low.

if they really wanted to save the flat earth, they would go with the pressured water engines, but there’s no money in that.

The irony is the EVs use fossil fuels for lubrication and to make tyres, not to mention all of the plastics they use and making the metal they're built from.

Of course the big business electricity generators are all really good guys

If the will is there it can be done. It's been talked about for years.

This Govt have refused planning permission for in-shore wind farms because their land owning chums don't like them. The very same Govt are all about competition, so there should be competition from other sources for lower prices.

Yes, but over the lifetime of the vehicle the overall consumption is less than production and use of petrol vehicles.
Think of all those diesel generators running 24/7
Don't they have electricity?

Wind farms can barely keep up with present demand, to satisfy the needs of electric vehicles we need at least two power stations and then we need to get the power to where it's needed
