Ive seen the pic, but not a word written anywhere. Where is the is story coming from? This pic was from an article in June that talked about extending to 40k, not 48

The image was published in June 2020.

@wints: I've had that image on my phone for at least the last 2 years, and it was old then.

I believe it is an updated version of a vision used to sell a new extension of the East Stand to corporate clients about 5 years or so ago. As my company is on the corporate mailing list, I was invited to an evening designed to monitor interest in revenue resourcing via (among other things) ground expansion. In the event I was out of UK so couldn't attend, but those who were were sworn to secrecy and it was weeks before my regular Sunday morning drinking pal would outline the plans.

The above diagram came about during/after (but certainly before the helicopter disaster) the acquisition of land from E-on when it became clear that such a deal opened up new opportunities.

The retention of that corner of land by E-on is curious. I know they had said that as the switch of generators had to be seamless, they would have to have 2 concurrent (that's 2 puns for those who have been taking notice :)) sites before finality, but I would have expected that eventuality to have been reflected in the plans, and anyway that shown is only office space. Whatever, the image at the top only catered for capacities of 40k; 43k or 45k, not 48k.

This latest news trumps those figures by a distance, and coming hot on the heels of training facility completion, it leads me to a long-held theory that perhaps the two entities have negotiated a deal which sees the utility company totally relocate their operation to Belvoir Drive with LCFC taking control of every scrap of land behind the East Stand thus increasing space and lending more architectural freedom for a Vichai memorial; a hotel; an indoor arena and poss a station etc. Who knows? I don't. But it would be a perfect move if it could be effected.

The indoor arena would fit well into the space occupied by the EON offices whilst also keeping the memorial garden intact. Office space is soon to become pretty widespread, maybe things have changed over the past few months since Covid hit?

The pictures that have circulated this weekend seem to reflect the criss cross roof design of the initial plan above however I’m not sure tis is accurate any more. If the 48,000 capacity is correct this would make the upper tier almost double the size of the existing lower tier and that clearly isn’t the case.

I also wondered if we’d do a 3 tier stand with an executive middle tier level a bit like the Emirates or Wembley?

It’s clearly still work in progress, plans haven’t been formally submitted to the council yet otherwise they would surely be in the public domain. If we’re spending the money on a new stand it makes sense for this to be as large as possible so I’d rather delay it a little and get it right than rush it.

So are we saying that LCFC own that corner plot the Eon building raw dykes corner? The last sale occurred on raw dukes road for 2 million in 2018. ??

That timescale would fit well wouldn’t it? I think we all thought it was the engineering sheds that we’d bought along with the land behind them that were earlier on open sale.

Yeah might be right but 2 million for those shed unless it also included that car parking space behind the sheds

It does look like a classic ransom strip. Wanna grow the stadium? No choice but to cough up for land on that side.
Extraordinary to look back and see that the whole ground only cost £30-35odd million...

To put the rumours into context the new main stand at Anfield holds 20,500 people and the massive 3 tier stand at Old Trafford holds 25,000.

If the 48,000 is correct then that’s an additional 16,000 seats. Add that to the what, 9,000 it currently holds, and you’ll be looking at something larger than the new stand at Anfield and more resembling the one at Old Trafford which is monstrous.

I struggle to believe we will do this, surely we’d be more likely to build a smaller stand down the side like the pictures show and then also increase the capacity at both ends of the stadium?

I personally think 42,000 would satisfy demand for now.

If you look at the plan Wints shared it clearly says in the middle that the new capacity would be 40,000 minimum.
