Sacré bleu

Tell you what Sabre. Back in March, when there was real fear going around, I was in a supermarket looking at the low-paid cashiers. You could see the stress on their faces, but they carried on, dealing with everyone who came in. Hours, days, weeks.
But there was no fanfare for these, often elderly, ladies.
👍🏻 Yep, work with loads of immigrants who have had to work throughout this to keep the Karen's stocked up with all sorts of shit they don't need while they clapped the NHS. Folk who couldn't afford to get the Rona coz they weren't getting any pay if they did.
No claps for them.

We need to start referring to them in military terms. Front line troops, boots on the ground.

Brauny, so sorry for your loss. Im sitting here expecting to be in the same boat any day now. My dad was in a care home suffering from dementia. He had a fall, broke his hip, and was taken into the LRI for an op. 2 weeks later, a diagnosis of Covid, and now here we are waiting for the inevitable phone call to say that he has left us. 😔

Sorry to hear that Brauny, sounds you have had a rotten year.

Experiences like yours make it difficult to even see these issues in a sane and rational manner.

Look after yourself and support your family.

Thanks Wints I appreciate your words.
Sorry to hear your plight as well, we really could do with something positive at the moment, as it seems to be just a conveyor belt of gloom. Surely things have to get better 🙏

Thanks again Dorset. There is really no alternative but to press ahead.
Losing my Dad was and still is gut wrenching, but I try to snap out of it by reminding myself that he wasn't a negative person. He would be disappointed if he thought we were all dwelling on it.
Also to say I very much appreciate your words as well. I see from your posts that you've had some major health issues, and it makes me realize the person you are, that you can send consoling messages when you have your own problems.👍

Brauny and Wints, sorry to read your news, it’s bad enough having people we care about being ill but not being able to visit/comfort/support them is a real bastard.
Thinking of you both

Health is a seriously odd issue.

For pretty much all of my adult life I have been what I describe as 'robustly healthy'.

I once went 26 years without contacting my GP or any NHS or other health professional, apart from a thorough checkup that I paid for after spending time travelling in some pretty basic 3rd world countries, fortunately I was fine.

Since the end of 2016, I have been treated for, and recovered from, throat cancer and this year had to deal with heart problems that I have detailed elsewhere. I am now in reasonable shape but having to build up my strength which has drained by being laid up for months due to the un-necessary delays in treating my arrhythmia. In this respect at least, I feel more positive.

Well the inevitable phone call from LRI came in the early hours of this morning. Dad has died from the effects of Covid.

Don't let anyone tell you this ain't real.

He loved City and took me to my first game. He'll always be in my thoughts but even more so as I pass by Filbert Street in future.

Very sad that.

Losing a parent is awful at any time but in these circumstances it’s so so hard . Condolences.
