it's just that rebuild projects can go spectacularly wrong. We stroke luck when NFP took over, and we never looked back. However, plenty of relegated PL clubs can point to experiences of lengthy spells in lower leagues because their "rebuilds" failed miserably and repeatedly. Leeds and Florist only returned to the PL recently or very recently after years and years in lower leagues (Leeds: 16 years, Florist: 23 years).
 
We've done some shambolic work since January 2016.

Of course, there are some duffers on there. However, some of them were spectacular successes, and I'd like to think the ratio of great to poor transfers is similar for many clubs.

What killed us a bit was everything from 2021 onwards. The good ones dried up.

Agreed Swabian. A fair number of those have given us spectacular service. Rogers and/or injury killed them off

Just loved buying a defender didn’t he , Rodgers.
You’ve had & still have ( mcCoist on talksport this morning for example ) these clueless pundits saying they feel sorry for rodgers “ not being backed”.

The only one I'd say who'd possibly perform is Lookman and Rodgers didn't rate him did he.

And what makes it worse is that lot probably think they're too good to be playing in the championship.

That's made me a sick.
 
Prior to all this our recruitment was not too bad, so what went wrong? My understanding is that a number of scouts left along with recruiters. What we did well and worked, we seemingly left behind. Fkkkin grim ain’t it!!

Now they were players!!!
 
Of the last 18 players we’ve signed only Tielemans and Fofana were of the required calibre.

The rest have been a disaster in terms of outlay and return.

I think I agree - if you leave character out of it. Fofana just used us as a cushy rehab centre; and when the tide turned, Tielemans packed his bucket and spade and went home. I actually think Fofana shafting us did a massive amount to destabilise us on the field. Tielemans built up some credit, not so Fofana in my view. Undoubted class as a player, none as an individual. Once they've done something for you, you can stomach them going mardy and shoving off - or at least I can ( see the case of Mahrez, for whom I have some vestige of affection) -but Fofana, I have to look away when he's on screen. Pees me off to think that he wore the shirt.

Fofana did the same at St Ettienne and they got relagated, with Puel in charge. Some pattern there!!

I think Castagne has been decent until the last few months. I k ow you don't rate him but there's a decent player in JJ if he could stay fit.

Absolutely!!!!! Top is not a footballing man or expert on how to run a club, he just got fast tracked into the seat with Vichai passing away. Rudkim and the rest of the management team have really taken the pisss and let everyone down. Still hasn’t sunk on with me that LCFC will be playing in the lower leagues from this year on. It’s quite sickening and was really honestly avoidable.

but most of the people that buy clubs these days are not football people, they still rely on other people with more footballing nous than them to make those kinds of decisions, they just front up the money for the business.
So a new buyer will need to bring in a talented right hand man/DOF type to advise, not keep rudkin.
 
Didn't we get a new head of recruitment last September from Southampton, Glover?
I wonder if he was part of the S'oton package orchestrated by Brendan's son Anton.
