Maddison

All these players in transit why ? It ain't as though there are that many teams better than us, and being as we look on the verge of greater things why?
Are you saying these men are just mercenaries, all are on decent money, quite a few are now being recognised,
But only through a team effort,
Manager on a decent contract being recognised for his efforts here I would have thought his next step would be a National one here or even abroad.
It’s all about the money Kendal. Even though we pay well the big six pay far more.

Maddison is the next McGuire / Chilwell.

Decent but not ground breaking. Over hyped and therefore bring on the next £80 million piece of business from someone thinking he’s better.

Them watch him find out he isn’t.

His replacement will already be factored in.

Agreed, Daggers. And I hate to say it, but Chilwell so far will probably only be encouraging others to follow suit.
I'm strangely ambivalent towards Maddison, tbh.

"He needs to knuckle down. Improve his fitness". I bow down to your obvious knowledge of football ylr, but he is only coming back up to some kind of fitness after hip injury and the manager has eased him in well. to my mind, so he is young and I for one wouldn't like to see him go, as some on here don't like his attitude, call it what you may!
I’ll help you out as you only see capable of reading part of what is written then misquoting from it. Before he starts selecting himself for the England team he might want to manage more than 60 minutes in a game and improving his fitness.

I really don't pick up the vibe that some of you are getting from maddison.

Yes he's got swagger and can rub people the wrong way, but he seems genuine to me. Maybe I'm going soft.

Don't forget he was the one player that was visibly kicking every ball in the stands during the run-in last season. Not the actions of the character written about on here...

YLR
I think that's what Brendan is trying to do giving him game time to improve his injury, considering only the club know how bad his injury was

I rate Maddison but then I also thought Chilwell was a top player!

Him and no doubt a few others will get picked off by other clubs in due course - it's always happened and I dont think our wealthy owners will ever be able to stop it unfortunately

The reason they cant stop it is because they are unwilling to take the next step to compete with the like of chelsea and use their own money to exploit the pathetic veil of financial compliancy that is FFP

I think a lot depends on the proposed ground extension and what gates we could achieve? The training ground wont make us money and will cost a lot to maintain. Could we get an average 40,000 gate?

Agree with that. Seems to enjoy being here. I could see his international ambitions being a reason to look for a move though.

With his new contract and with Ricardo contract situation, I think he will be the next departure, especially with RB resources we now have and it wouldn't surprise me if Castagne was brought in with that in mind as the longer term option.

Certainly don't see Maddison going yet.

So what you are saying we have reached our limit.
Other clubs have got round FFP

Yes they have, look at Chelsea - quarter of a billion spent on players this summer, Man City beating FFP in a court of law, Everton spending way above their means.......all of this being done because their owners are pumping in money.

Football fans are very good at spending other peoples money

To compete with the likes of chelsea the owners would have to:

a - Double, at the very least, the wages of the players to try and prevent the annual exodus
b- Extend the ground to accommodate 50-60k - which we would never fill

Neither of which would guarantee breaking into the top 4, as 2 of the 'big 6' are going to find out later this season

We need to be realistic about what a provincial football club can achieve, on a regular basis, without a bottomless pit of cash which our owners are unlikely to provide

I'm under the impression we have something many other football clubs don't have: excellent leadership, a clear long-term strategy and very good togetherness. Overall, the sum is bigger than the individual parts.

Of course, there will be setbacks and we will keep losing the odd player or important member of staff, but if the core of the club stays together we will still be attractive for plenty of good players (and people!). Whether that's enough to gradually grow into a top four side I don't know but we have come a long way already, and we are still improving.

I'll be honest - I don't like the fella. I don't think he's even as good as Grealish. I think his ego is bigger than the rest of the squad combined and last night i saw a few things in play that had it happened under Pearson he'd be stamping out. He was incredibly negative throughout. Constantly berating the ref for 'fouls' on him. Several times had a go at Choudhury, Tielemans and Nacho for not giving him the ball. It wouldn't be so bad if he quickly moved on but he doesn't...he lets it eat him up (stands with his arms out wide...head pointing to the sky etc) and essentially stops playing for a minute. He acted yesterday like he had a divine right to score and when given a perfect chance to do so missed. Best outright chance of the match. Then he comes out with the England crap. He needs to knuckle down. Improve his fitness. Produce more than one decent final ball in a match and take some of the chances that come his way....then he can start acting like the Wayne Rooney he already seems to think he is. Competitive, winning attitude is one thing but that isn't the effect it has on those around him.
You're not that keen on Vardy either are you?

M, but don't you think we have got value within our scope, I 've seen some dubious signings from the elites mega efforts

This has reached a nifty largely prompted by YLR and subsequently folk like me questioning Maddisons attitude on the pitch. I say on the pitch because off it he has done some good work, e.g with the young girl with a terminal illness. But routinely moaning at his colleagues (Richie Wellens anybody) and feigning injury is not what I want to see. The team that won the Prem were a very together group, Mahrez had more skill than Maddison but - in that special season - was a team player, and although we drew criticism for Huth and Morgan in our box and Vardy's histrionics in the opposition box, it was pretty mild stuff. I do not want to see anyone sidelined by injury, but the current crop of injuries have proved it is a team game and no-one is indispensable. Of course we want our best team out, of which Maddison would be a part, but that does not make him above criticism that he needs to grow up.
