Maddison

His control of the ball is something else. The way he can twist and turn and find a pass is special. A real talent. He is clearly a confident lad. I like his interviews - honest. Feels like he’d say the same to friends as he does to the press.

I Think he lost his smile and spark in the interview last night, he said recently that he hates not playing in front of a crowd as he feeds off there energy. I hope he is not missing his mate Chilwell we need to keep him as long as we can.

I know Choudhury and Thomas played well last night, but Maddison's presence and form was what made us look a real attacking threat. His ability to receive, turn past his man, then play the right attacking pass is vital. He was a massive loss at the back end of last season

Vardy aside, perhaps the closest we’ve got to an indispensable player. Having him and Tielemans on song gives all sort of options to the players around them, and in front of them.

I'll be honest - I don't like the fella. I don't think he's even as good as Grealish. I think his ego is bigger than the rest of the squad combined and last night i saw a few things in play that had it happened under Pearson he'd be stamping out. He was incredibly negative throughout. Constantly berating the ref for 'fouls' on him. Several times had a go at Choudhury, Tielemans and Nacho for not giving him the ball. It wouldn't be so bad if he quickly moved on but he doesn't...he lets it eat him up (stands with his arms out wide...head pointing to the sky etc) and essentially stops playing for a minute. He acted yesterday like he had a divine right to score and when given a perfect chance to do so missed. Best outright chance of the match. Then he comes out with the England crap. He needs to knuckle down. Improve his fitness. Produce more than one decent final ball in a match and take some of the chances that come his way....then he can start acting like the Wayne Rooney he already seems to think he is. Competitive, winning attitude is one thing but that isn't the effect it has on those around him.

Pearson did a good job controlling his own son, didn't he?

You both miss the point about Pearson (who i thought was an arishole) - my point is the team that won the league didn't have players that operated as Maddison has lately. It wouldn't have been tolerated. You never see Vardy do it and final balls into him let down his good work 5-6 times per game since 2016 before and after. It's a negative trait that seems fine during the good times but can't have a positive effect during the bad times. Maddison hasn't earnt the right to think he deserves better from the players around him.

Interesting - a whole thread of valid points not necessarily coming in from the same perspective.

He is clearly a class act - a super player who is light-years ahead of most attacking players who have played in a City shirt in the last few decades. When on song, an absolute delight to watch and a pleasure to say he is one of ours.

But like ylr..to me his demeaner on the pitch hardly makes him likeable at the moment. We are a team/squad that have thrived in recent years on togetherness - and there are times on the pitch when he comes across as a bit of a mardy-arse. His berating of the ref (and refs in every game he plays) and several team mates last night was far from necessary, and his air of detachment in the post-match interview seemed out of place to this viewer.

Of course, it ain't a beauty contest and if he goes on being superb, who cares....

...well if he turns into a diving, moaning, yellow-card waving, billy big bollox mardy-arse...I suppose I do.

The comments about Maddison berating the ref are interesting as it’s not that long ago we were complaining we don’t get in the face of the referee enough.

I would say there is a difference Dags - Maddison potentially morphing into a serial squealer is not the same as players protesting abominable reffing errors.

Being a whinging whining serial squealer seems to be a remarkably successful strategy for quite a number of Premier League players

Not very nice to watch though

At times (and yesterdays game was a good example) he looks far more likely to injure himself from the 'action' he adds to his own body from a tackle as opposed to the tackle itself.

I could happily forgive Nacho for trying to get a hat trick last night. Maddison is one of the most skilful players we have ever had but he has no right to consider himself at a level when he can moan at others. The example for last night that summed it for me was in the first half when he took a shot and ignored Under who had made loads of ground into the box and was unmarked. After that he was looming for fouls and moaning when they weren't given. Dennis may not be as skilful but he can do a job. Maddison needs to be reminded that he is not indispensable.

Many many egotistical players demand the ball as they see things more clearly can't remember who it was last night when Madds was open on goal left side
And the player tried to shoot instead of passing he was clearly pissed off at being denied an opportunity

It was Nacho but he was on a hat-trick.

Maddison is quality. Sometimes you have to put up with a bit of petulance from these players. Let's just enjoy him while he's here.

'Let's just enjoy him while he's here.'

FFS! Don't you start. Isn't it enough that we've already got Hackers, Brauny & crew trying to sell players before we've even bought them?

Maddison et al will be here to pick up FA Cup, Europa League, Premier League, Champions League winners medals with LCFC. Why would they leave?

And no, it isn't. My tongue is here: 🥵

BLUE ARMY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you're right and he stays until he retires, but he strikes me as the type that would be off if he was offered more money at a "top 6" (cringe) club.

He's off next season regardless. We could win Europa and fail to finish outside top 4 but still qualify and he'd be off. As will Rodgers if we won Europa League.

Fact is regardless of Nacho understandably wanting to complete his hattrick it was Nachos great work beating several players and releasing a brilliant ball to Maddison in the first half only for Maddison to not finish it.

If Maddison feels he deserves to get the ball more in finishing positions then he goal conversion rate needs to improve ten fold. Until then he need to button up, pick his aris off the grass and produce much better final balls into the strikers too. Then he can start complaining about not being picked by Southgate. Imagine the ego when you've failed to complete 90 minutes of football (hardly even completed 60) in the best part of 9 months and then saying you wanted and hoped to get picked for the national team - had it been another opposition player he'd be laughed out of town.

For fucks sake, he’s young and eager! Get off the kids back, you misserable gits.

"He needs to knuckle down. Improve his fitness". I bow down to your obvious knowledge of football ylr, but he is only coming back up to some kind of fitness after hip injury and the manager has eased him in well. to my mind, so he is young and I for one wouldn't like to see him go, as some on here don't like his attitude, call it what you may!

Who have I been trying to sell?
My name isn't Rudkin by the way.

All these players in transit why ? It ain't as though there are that many teams better than us, and being as we look on the verge of greater things why?
Are you saying these men are just mercenaries, all are on decent money, quite a few are now being recognised,
But only through a team effort,
Manager on a decent contract being recognised for his efforts here I would have thought his next step would be a National one here or even abroad.
