Diego Maradona RIP

"Reports from Argentina that Diego Armando Maradona has died. By some distance the best player of my generation and arguably the greatest of all time. After a blessed but troubled life, hopefully he’ll finally find some comfort in the hands of God. #RipDiego"

Lucky to have seen him play in this country. Turned out for Tottenham at White Hart Lane in a testimonial game. Money well spent watching his skills at close quarters.
Watching him play for Napoli before the days of Channel 4`s "Football Italia" , via video tapes , was a real footballing treat.
My friends in Argentina will be devastated .

RIP. One of the greats in my book, maybe the greatest. Watching the recent documentary on his time in Napoli, you realised how one player under an almost impossible burden of exploitation anD expectation, could pull an entire team to glory, as he did with Argentina.

Why cheat when you have his feet that's what my Dad always said.... great footballer but not a good individual
One of the greatest players of all times. But a messed up person...surprised he lived as long as he did.
His chat show was pretty good, though.

Why? I think that’s was a great tweet.

Yes. It’s available on all platforms. Great movie made by the same guy I believe as made Senna the movie. Absolutely brilliant for all footie fans. His time in Napoli was bonkers
Really enjoyed that documentary.
They say that one man doesn't make a team, imo he bucked that trend.

No doubt that was a wonderful player but I couldn't warm to him like other greats of my era, Best, Cruyff and Pele. He was a cheat of the highest order and in my honest opinion, he cost us the World Cup in 1986, we were the form team and on a roll.

Pretty much all yes

Instinctively they claim for throw-ins etc when they know full well they touched the ball last, they simulate fouls and roll around pretending that they have a serious injury when there was no contact, they pull shirts etc etc

a kind interpretation would be gamesmanship

Granted, some are worse than others but I do think it's built into the DNA of pro footballers

Maradona's attempt was just more blatant

It was gut wrenching at the time, but it stood out more because cheating was not so prevalent in those days.
Nowadays cheating is unfortunately all part of the game. Players writhing in agony at the slightest contact, and I am also sure players are coached on how to dive. It sickens me that the dark arts so often decide crucial games rather than just good football
