Billy's Boots....what were yours?

My first set of boots playing for my junior school were of a brown leather construction that covered my ankles and with reinforced toe caps. The studs were nailed on and I often felt like a guru walking on a bed of nails. I was always picked as a right back because with those toe caps I could kick the leather ball the furthest from our goal. Added to say that they had hoops sewn in to the rear so you could pass the very long laces through many times.

Christmas 1954. Think my dad got them from Sports Ltd or from my mother's club book, Grattens. As others have said, leather, hard toe caps, laced up to the ankles. I had that style til I started senior school in 1961, then I progressed to Adidas, then Puma, and used that brand till I had to packed in local football at 27 after damaging my Lateral and AC ligaments.

From my Syston St Peters days , looks like I've got Adidas boots on..fitted with extra long aluminium studs for soft/muddy pitches, actually rugby boot studs.Syston St Peters 2nd team 1976 ish (2).jpg

Adidas Valencia, & various other pairs of Adidas.
I used to do alright for boots, but only because the bloke next door to my grandad worked at the Co-op shoe warehouse & used to "get them from work"

Made my primary school debut for Belgrave National aged 7 in a new pair of Golas with red stripes. Teenage years always played in Adidas Santiagos and then Puma Kings in senior football

Malc what years were you playing for the Peters, and any names you can recall?
The Peters side I played for was formed in 1976 when Syston Town (who I played for) and Syston Imps amalgamated changed the name and joined the Senior league, I was there till 1981.
Players came and went as they do at that level, but some I remember Martin Newby, Paul Noble, Dennis Gilbert, Brian Smith, Paul Charles, Jack Crump...so long ago. Happy new year to you.
Edited to say, not forgetting Pete Jones who became a league referee and worked at LCFC when he finished...very good right back.

Back in the late 60s big Brother Seamus cut an old pair of brown leather boots down, loads of black polish and painted 3 white stripes on them, I wore them for our school match Sacred Heart V Bridge Road school, my first proper game of footy, I was about 10 years old and that’s what got me hooked, we won 1.0 as well…
