…….is the shortest tenure of any British Prime Minister. George Canning served under various previous Prime Ministers, including 2 occasions as Foreign Secretary, finally becoming Prime Minister himself and dying in office on his 119th day, April to August 1827.
He was wounded in the thigh when fighting a duel with Lord Castlereagh on Putney Heath in 1809.
He moved to Burbage for a short while due to the poor health of his eldest son who died of consumption in 1820. They lived at what is now the Constitutional Club in Burbage to be near the family doctor. Canning Street in Hinckley bears his name.
What’s the odds on the current Prime Minister lasting as long!
