The Wobbling Fatty

I think the body language he exudes these days and the lack of effort tells us his mind is elsewhere and he wants away.
And he's been like that all last season.
And when a player is like that its best for all concerned if he pisses off and we get a half decent fee.
And for me his behaviour last season has tarnished the memory of his Cup winning goal just a bit.

Precisely.

Similar to Mahrez, he's tarnished his legacy with his abject attitude after their greatest achievement (at that time) in domestic football.

The problem is there are no CL clubs wanting him. In fact it seems the Arse are the only PL club interested. No foreign teams either ATM. So we’re between a rock and a hard place. What I find strange is his thinking that Arsenal will get him the CL football he wants. They could only get 5th without European football. They’ve been crap for the last 7-8 years. He might as well sign a new contract unless it’s all about money. Which sadly it probably is.

Surely it's in any player's interests who wants to play at a higher level to put themselves in the shop window by consistently performing well? For whatever reason Tielemans obviously hasn't done that this season, hence (as LG rightly says) the apparent absence of interest in him from any club involved in the CL. A move to Arsenal would be a sideways move at best. He's been a very good player for us but not a great one -unlike Mahrez, Kanté and Vardy for example.

I'd be happy for him to stay and I wouldn't be over surprised if he did, unless a surprise move came in from a CL-involved club materialised. He's always spoken about how happy he and his family have been here and why would anyone in their right mind want to move from the idyllic surroundings of The Republic?

As for being a 'wobbling fatty', he may not have blinding pace, but I can assure you our Youri is no such thing. I've seen him running round the village a number of times and he reminds me very much of me in my athletic pomp - ripped muscles and fit as fuck. The man brought us the other seemingly impossible dream that so many fans before us sadly did not get to see - that makes him an unadulterated legend for me.

Well I never realised that Youri lived in the same village as you. The thought of Youri chasing you through the streets of the Republic makes me understand that’s there’s more than just the original Quorn Hunt and thus depicting another innocent being chased by an infinitely younger pack!

My lad, who knows more about me than these things, tells me this has been the patter throughout his career.
Two good seasons then 'head turned' and a season of poor performances before he moves on

Well when was the last time the crowd sang his Star Man song?
We always sang it when he first arrived!

unless someone has played so well there is a bidding war...oh
Even if that's the situation, the bidding war is still for far less than when there's 3 or 4 years remaining on the contract.
One of the very very few exceptions of a high fee with just a year to go was Hazard to Real, which worked out well.......

‘Throughout his career’? Tell your lad he’s talking bollocks! He played for 4 years at Anderlecht followed by 2 years at Monaco from where we signed him, initially on loan, in 2019.

it wouldn't be the first time, but i believe the pattern is there to be seen at both those clubs

Not much evidence of ripped muscles whenever I saw him tucking into the pizza and pasta by the shedload down the San Carlo in Granby St on many an occasion (before his move to Quorn I believe).

This thing about poor attitude I just didn’t see. He was the player constantly making himself available for the ball, always moving. Quite often the only player attempting to make a forward pass. Yes I agree not up to his previous standard, but for those on here moaning about the tippy tippy football I thought he was the one trying to be positive.

I recall Puel saying that he'd 'lost his way' at Monaco, which was why we'd been able to sign him for the initial loan. And I recall reading at that time about him getting the move to Monaco in similar circumstances.
So if you add a third instance of 'losing his way / form dropping off / head being turned by his agent' last season, then that looks very much like a pattern, no?
He might only be 25, but he was playing in the CL at 16!! Three similar moves in 9 or 10 years surely doesn't deserve such instant blinkered disregard - even on here!

For what it’s worth I thought he was our best player in the first few months of the season. Great goals vs Man U and Brentford and the most incisive passer at the club. But he went downhill badly after Christmas. He was really poor vs Forest and from what I saw hardly improved afterwards. He wasn’t helped by Ndidi injury forcing him deeper. I still think he is an excellent player but for whatever reason I think his race is run at City.
