The one thing I have a problem with is that the final the world cup organisers would possibly prefer has been fixed so the only time they could possibly meet is in the final, correction if they both lost in the semi finals they would meet in third and fourth place match , only just realised this when looking for odds on usa playing Netherlands in the final realised they could not meet in the final even though they are in the same qualifying group
 
weird to moan about something you have a choice to indulge in, or avoid.

if i'm walking through the park and there's a match on, i'll watch it. youth or mens. if i'm flicking through the channels and there's a match on, i'll watch it. mens or womens. my choice, no-one is forcing me. i just like watching football, good or shit.
so far i've ony seen about 30mins of the england game from the world cup...and i don't feel bombarded by the coverage like some are complaining about. maybe the problem is theirs? choosing to read / watch the coverage, instead of just skipping it?
 
The only sport I watch avidly is men's football, outside of the sports channels there doesn't seem to be much promotion of any sport. However I do feel pressured into being a "better" person by taking an interest in the woman's game by the very frequent advertising of the games on standard telly.

I do wonder if the TV companies have spent too much on these games and are now trying very hard to get the viewing figures to justify it.

You are quite correct that "other channels are available" but the almost constant promotion of the world cup is hard to avoid

And to be fair it’s not only the women’s World Cup. We exist in a culture of ‘dumbing down’, where all of the industries that serve the population will present mediocrity or a cheap product and wrap it up in glitter and hype.
Television is a major culprit but it’s also abundant in the music, film and food industries. Nutrition-less food, craftless music and nonsensical movies are filling our lives so a fully televised/hyped women’s football competition nestles in nicely……come on you lionesses

Unless I am misunderstanding something, possibly the most laughably stupid comment you have put on here. In the last hour and a half bookended by 10 minutes of watching BBC2 I saw 2 adverts for The Hundred (men & women's competition)... and it really is not alone. The free to air channels get so little sniff of live sport action because of the fees involved they get what they can & try to drive traffic/interest accordingly. I.e. hype it. Wimbledon is another recent example of a televised sporting event that got saturated promotion. The British Grand Prix on C4 also was well pushed. Etc. Etc.

I get that for you £1 would be too much but allegedly £9m between BBC & ITV apparently (and much to the disgust of FIFA). It's a lot to you and me but in the world of TV Sport rights it is fuck all (apparently about £150m less than paid for the men's World Cup last year, Wimbledon was allegedly around £60m a year 6 years ago). And how much expectation of big viewing figures do you think BBC & ITV have given the times of the games from the other side of the world? That is one of the reasons they shoved 2 fingers up to FIFA when they were after more cash.

Mens football generates income.
Women's football doesn't.
We're being drip fed that it should be equality for all, when the fact is the product isn't of equal value
When they can generate the income to claim equal footing fair enough, until then it's a pipedream. Why should we subside an inferior product yet worship it as on a par?.

Not sure what that reply has to do with my post but...

If you really want my opinion on pay equality in football. I think it is nonsense for people to be calling for it. Earnings in sport are not like comparing Mr Smith Accountant & Mrs Smith Accountant where parity for the same job should be a given.

Women's football will start generating more and more income and salaries will increase as a result. Those women playing now in the professional game will look enviously on those in the future in the same way that Steve Walsh and his generation look upon the players of today, how Birchenall & his generation looked upon Walsh's generation, how Riley & his generation looked upon Birchenall's etc. etc. Will they ever reach parity with male footballers - or even exceed it. Possibly, don't care. The market will decide. But the game is not there yet. And regardless of anything else I will continue to watch the games for what they are. Games of football.
 
It's quite simple real LCFC women will not survive on gate recipts and current sponsorship fact !!
Nuneaton Boro have gone bust 3 time's because of lack of attendances and the odd dodgy owner Fact.
So where do these womens football clubs think the money should come from to fund there idea's???
A lot of these womens teams have been about for less than 20 years and all of a sudden they want premiership standards overnight.

Undoubtedly true. The way I look at it the women's professional game is very much at a "loss leader" stage and it is no coincidence that the vast majority of teams in the Women's Super League these days are part of clubs in the men's Premier League (which answers the question of where the money comes from). On LCFC specifically I don't recall the figures but I think that we were the only WSL club not to see an uptick in attendances following last year's Euros which would I imagine be a concern. However, I don't think that the Women's game in England will survive or fall on the fortunes of LCFC. I do think though that it means that at the current stage of the game's development here any significant weakening in the men's PL commercial appeal would have a major impact on the women's professional game in its current form. As it stands though I continue to believe it will continue to grow.
 
The women’s game needs to be pump-primed to make it a commercially viable entity, that will take time. The money comes from FIFA and then domestically, in England the game is lucky that the vastly wealthy EPL can provide funds.

Why shouldn’t the women’s game get that level of investment?

It was within the lifetimes of plenty on here the English FA banned women from playing the game. A truly shameful act.

A bit of sporting reparations shouldn’t be an issue.

A tough ask last season. Watching one team languishing at the bottom of the league is bad enough, but watching two???
 
I just wish the media would be clear about which of men’s/women’s football they are talking about or are going to talk about. Headlines in papers and adverts on television just refer to “Arsenal” or “England” when they mean the women’s teams and I resent wasting time reading or watching until realising what it’s about. They should also stop comparing achievements in the two games like winning the Euros and breaking scoring records.

Totally agree . It's as though there trying to morph the two games!! And we all know it's completely different game's.

the WNBA has been going for twenty five years now and still loses around ten million dollars a year subsidised by the mens game,
