Brauny
The optimistic pessimist
Brauny, I’ve worked in professional football, that’s just Roy of the Rovers thinking, I’m afraid.
It’s a job, a very well paid job, and it’s treated as such by the vast majority. Any player telling you otherwise is giving you Christmas Card pish.
We’ve got a squad filled with blokes who’s football next season will be well away from the KP, when the going gets tough they don’t care.
So fans are are between a rock and hard place, let them know what you think and they down tools, or scream your lungs out in support but they lack any kind of mental fortitude or willingness to go the extra and deal with pressure so they wilt.
Respect your opinion but don't agree with it all.
For the record I have not worked in professional football, but have reasonable knowledge of how it works through a family member playing for Leicester City and also working with ex professionals.
Regarding downing tools I don't accept that. Players may consciously or unconsciously be less motivated but they couldn't hide a big drop off in performance without getting hooked and dropped.
At a level where results are often determined by fine margins, a player only needs to slightly drop their standards for it to make a difference.
Another reason I'd doubt them downing tools is because the vast majority of footballers want to play at the highest level they are capable of.
They would want to be a marketable product for potential suitors.
Clubs that target a player must also surely be scrutinizing every aspect of potential new recruitments and I'm sure a player with a poor attitude would be a big negative.
