Most Memorable Encounter With A Footballing Legend?

Lingers Long On Cank Street
I was lucky enough to meet the late great Pele at the wake after Ronnie Corbett’s Funeral. After a brief chit chat about our favourite moments in ‘Sorry!’, Pele started reminiscing about the Santos tours of England in the 1960s. ‘I could have played at Filbert Street under the lights’, he confessed to me wistfully, through an interpreter. ‘But they wouldn’t pony up our match fee, those skinflint scrap metal dealing bastids.’ Before we parted, he told me that the all-time favourite Leicester player in Brazil was Norman Leet. Only he seemed to have mixed him up with Reg Leet, who used to run a junkshop on the Coventry Road in Hardborough, and ended up doing a stretch for being a ‘latter day Fagin.’

I once shared Carlos Valderrama’s Afro comb down the FLOB.
Playing for Real Valladolid that night. Carlos was enjoying an ice cream as he walked past me after being subbed.

Met Gabriel Batistuta and Giancarlo Antognoni on a freezing Tuesday night outside the Victoria Ground. Fiorentina had just played out a very boring 0-0 draw with Stoke in the Anglo Italian Cup.

Big Wes in the queue for boarding at JFK. Tattiest passport I've ever seen. He kindly posed for a photo before us both getting on the plane, I he turned right with his Mrs, I turned left

Had Bobby Robson on the flight from Barcelona in 1996. We were delayed and only half full. He’d been told to leave Barcelona for a few days during the international break as they’d just lost to RM. Asked him if he minded chatting about football. Said ‘son I’ll talk to you all day if you’d like’. Spoke for half an hour. THE nicest guy you could ever meet. A complete gentleman

Once had a slash next to Caglar Soyuncu, the lyrics to his song are inaccurate.
I has a piss next to Gary Lineker in the Adam and Eve, it was after we’d been promoted with Jock Wallace and we couldn’t win a game at the time, told him where he was going wrong, can’t say he seemed too impressed🤷‍♂️

In the old Hole in the wall in Ashby with my mates stood next to John McGovern in the bogs, not that we took the piss or anything

Shook hands with Jock Wallace outside Filbo. Took a week to get any feeling back in my right hand :ROFLMAO:

Trod on Ruud Gullit's foot stepping backwards after looking at a departure board at Gatwick Airport. He told me to "fuck off" which was fair comment and he was a big unit

Went to WH Smiths in town to get Linekers book signed in 86, was 15 then. He asked my name. Me: "Toby", reply, "as in jug?", Me: "No as in Toby". That shut him up.
Called one of his boys Toby, I'm claiming it.

Spoke to Frankie in a club in Bradford . He was in his 50’s at the time and was with a young blonde about 20.

Told him fair play to him and he loved the fact we were from Leicester.

1000024791.jpgAugust 2019 , me & the lad met Shinji at Bilbao airport both about to board a flight to Málaga. He was playing for Málaga at the time , they had played Racing Santander the night before.
Shinji ( & his teammates) didn't really understand our excitement until my lad showed him the City badge on his hoodie....then that big famous smile broke out.

Pervert! Surprised he didn't deck you tudor.

I once had a wee next to Ian 'The Big O' Ormandroyd in a motorway service station (sorry, I can't remember which one) urinals. He was very big. I've no idea about the size of his male appendage though.

Took my 1975 year book to Netherhall boys club and an evening with Frankie. He wore the same houndstooth jacket as on the cover of his book. Went to get it signed and he said "fucking hell where did you get this it's brand new" I said I've had it since I were eleven Frank. You had to be there 😁

Met Lennie Glover at a do at Market Harborough cricket club. He spoke to me and a friend for a couple of minutes and then in the time honoured phrase made his excuses and left. Had a much longer chat with Brian Labone in a drinking den in Liverpool. Think I may have mentioned the Germans but got away with it.

Forgot I dragged Shinji into the Brickies on Welford Rd when he'd stopped to pick up food from a restaurant close by. His wife didn't look impressed, but he was brilliant.
