Well I thought Tommy English was just about one level up from Roger Davies. I'm sure when he got the ball or ran with it he had no idea what he was going to do with it - hence some defenders couldn't read him.

My lasting impression was once a Craven Cottage. After the game we walk about a quarter of way round the ground and bumped into him, fully changed, wet hair and dashing into the players lounge. Perhaps I'm doing him a disservice - perhaps he'd been despatched early to get the drinks in.

Not a clue, I certainly recall his winner against manyoo in 80/81 down here... plus his hat trick at Naarch on the last day of the same term.
