Did they all die? Are more people dead or dying than we have been told? What's going on?
Furlough has ended. They are all at home being paid not to work.
It has but long term benefits will pick up much of the slack. Many people have got used to doing nothing and rather like it, for others financial reality will start to bite and people will go back to work but that will take time.Furlough has ended.
I wonder why? Obviously can't be Brexit.this year there are signs in every other business looking for staff.
Obviously it's not Brexit, more likely Furlough.I wonder why? Obviously can't be Brexit.
What a lazy observation. You must be living in a part of the country where you’ve seen this - certainly not reflective of everywhere. Many people have got used to doing nothing and rather like it,
General observation, I might not watch TV but I do read the news. What a lazy observation. You must be living in a part of the country where you’ve seen this - certainly not reflective of everywhere.
Still a modest smattering of Eastern Europeans, pretty much as before, still mostly locals.I wonder why? Obviously can't be Brexit.
There are still some around, but far less overall than before. Our pre-Brexit economic model was dependent on lots of cheap foreign labour, and that continued immediately after Brexit because we allowed EU citizens who were already here to stay. Then loads of them went home during the Covid lockdown and most haven't come back, hence the lack of lorry drivers, hospitality workers, warehouse workers, etc.General observation, I might not watch TV but I do read the news.

Yeah but we're not allowed to say Brexit might be a contributing factor. Covid has provided a perfect smokescreen. There are still some around, but far less overall than before. And it seems anyone that's voted 'Leave' thinks Brexit is not responsible for anything. That's because you've been blaming Brexit for everything for the last two years
Yeah OK. Whatever people think they voted for, regardless of it being some sort of punishment beating as AFCD drones on about, the fact is we are seeing some fallout as a result of Brexit, employee shortages, disruption to trade, more red tape and delay to exports, etc. I don't see why people can't admit it, continuing to deny it's anything to do with Brexit. That's because you've been blaming Brexit for everything for the last two years
How do I know? Whatever you thought you were getting this is where we are, it's not really what you'd call sunlit uplands is it? Why don't you tell us what you thought you'd be getting. What did I think I would be getting?
They never made that clear at the time did they? It's what's happened so they're now claiming it was their intention.Johnson et al have been clear (well this week at least) that their vision of post Brexit Britain was to cut the pipeline of low wage EU workers.
There is probably a very small minority of people who choose not to work. Not a great lifestyle choice, given the cost of living compared to benefits paid. How do they get people out to work to fill the gaps? Increase pay is one way, but then that increases costs and who pays that?Except, they likely won’t in any great number - for a number of reasons, of which fecklessness is likely for some.
It’s the blame game again. It’s always something or someone else’s fault. How do I know? Whatever you thought you were getting this is where we are, it's not really what you'd call sunlit uplands is it? Why don't you tell us what you thought you'd be getting.

That's it, blame the bloody Europeans. What about David Davies? He was meant to be negotiating the deal. What about the Withdrawal Agreement they all voted for then criticised afterwards, having clearly not read all of it.I thought I'd be getting a choice of who makes the rules I work to, I didn't expect it to happen overnight and I didn't anticipate covid and bloody minded europeans doing all they could to fuck things up. What I didn't expect was large companies bemoaning the loss of cheap labour whilst announcing massive profits and then being supported by left leaning people who wanted people to be paid more.
Big employers profitability has been subsidised by tax payers (tax credits) for too long now they're being dragged kicking and screaming into the real world they don't like it and you seem to be sympathising with them.
See aboveIt’s the blame game again. It’s always something or someone else’s fault.
Has there ever been a government & a party so lacking in responsibility & accountability?
Worse still we have a sizeable chunk of the electorate willing to nod along to this constant flag-shagging & crap symbolism.
Denial or blindness - there’s your pick.
I have never suggested that we have not lost workers, many of them very worthwhile, due to Brexit, that was always going to happen. The real problem is that, post Brexit, the government quite deliberately refused to do anything about it, it had years to reorganise and change the economy for the better but chose not to, hence another 'punishment beating'.Yeah OK.
As I pointed out before, Covid has provided a perfect smokescreen and is obviously a contributing factor, but just admit you might have been duped and aren't getting what you thought you would.
Have to agree with you here - everyone’s forgotten Raab’s howlers & Davis’s admittance that he’s not read key documentation.it had years to reorganise and change the economy for the better but chose not to
Glad you're finally cottoning onThat's it, blame the bloody Europeans
For once Mm, that is pretty much on the money.Have to agree with you here - everyone’s forgotten Raab’s howlers & Davis’s admittance that he’s not read key documentation.
I’m sure there were other instances where cabinet ministers etc, showed a distinct lack of preparation & effort.
All seem to have been cut from the same cloth as the current PM.
Blame something else, blame someone else, hold on for the next reshuffle when they’ve done just enough to secure another role they know fuck-all about, but carrying on the same level of incompetence.
But if the tax burden on the ordinary people is reduced we'll be better off anyway. Now we're out of the EU we can tax imports to make them less attractive if needs be, maybe we can encourage profitable companies to be more responsible and take it on the chin or even increase corporation tax on excess profits like the left have been suggesting for yearsEveryone wants everything as cheap as possible. The Govt know if they remove these benefits the employers will have to increase wages which will put prices up, so people will buy cheaper from abroad.
The welfare bill is the single largest slice of government spending. Pensions are the largest part of that but don’t expect that to be touched. Tax credits however… As you say this has subsidised the low skill, low productivity economy we have. I don’t doubt Brown had good intentions. But Starmer etc. pointing out that 40% of UC claimants are in work sort of paints a target on their back. Same with housing benefit - which flows straight into some landlords pockets.I thought I'd be getting a choice of who makes the rules I work to, I didn't expect it to happen overnight and I didn't anticipate covid and bloody minded europeans doing all they could to fuck things up. What I didn't expect was large companies bemoaning the loss of cheap labour whilst announcing massive profits and then being supported by left leaning people who wanted people to be paid more.

Steady on, you sound like a socialist. But if the tax burden on the ordinary people is reduced we'll be better off anyway. Now we're out of the EU we can tax imports to make them less attractive if needs be, maybe we can encourage profitable companies to be more responsible and take it on the chin or even increase corporation tax on excess profits like the left have been suggesting for years
Yes they were, so why can't some people just be honest and admit that, instead of doubling down and still claiming there are no problems caused by Brexit?Voters were lied to regarding Brexit
