Why do we despise them so much?

They have become my no.1 team to beat now. I got even more pleasure yesterday than even when we thrashed F*^^%. Why is it? I get the feeling I’m not alone.
I wasn’t at the 99 Final but have heard all the vile stories. A few older guys yesterday (60’s) outside the ground afterwards started saying ‘do you think it’s safe to take the helicopter back to the London’. Seriously? They really are a horrible lot. I know there are some great Spuds fans but an are really vile.
My bitch with them comes from 2016. I loved it yesterday when the Kop were singing ‘we’re coming for you’. Deluded lot they truly are.

LG I have hated since the Blanchflower Mckay era used to get shit from an uncle who was a rabid fan who lived in Ealing
Always on about our tiny club, pity he wasn't around to see what we have achieved and how his dside have done fuckall

Good question. It is recent I think, certainly is for me as pre 2016 I didn't give a damn about them. So, yes, that season and how their fans (and some players, where is Alli now??) acted would be my guess.

I know plenty of Spurs fans, they're all ok. None of them are deluded or arrogant,or are remotely interested in us. in fact they're all permanently convinced that Spurs will be , well a bit Spursy.
Unlike that lot at the other end of The Seven Sisters Rd.

Good point…, currently dislike arsenal more, there’s something very pleasing watching the Arsenal OTT goal celebrations on MOTD knowing what was coming…..

Spurs are despised by almost every fan of London based teams. Weird because I don’t how they’ve upset so many clubs having won fuck all in so long.
Know a couple of Spurs fans who will give it the big one about what they’ve won then go quiet when you point out they weren’t alive at the time.
Know a few who, as Walt mentioned, think they’re club is a bit ‘Spursy’.

Just a few reasons from the long list.

The media love in for the last forty years of the 20th century (which was brought to mind watching Sherwood sob his way through his Sky updates yesterday)
Rucks in the 60s and 70s, even when we weren’t playing each other.
Away games at The Lane.
Chas and Fuckin’ Dave
Dave Mackay
Hoddle 1993
1961 and 1982
The 1987 FA Cup Final
2015/6
Most of all 1999, and the Pompey-like attacks on women and children.

All that said, I know a fair few decent Spurs fans, who’ve had the air taken out of their pumped up tyres in the 21st Century.

I think that is an interesting observation about how fans differ, even within a club.
The perceived arrogance of a noisy section of Spurs fans is probably born from the nature of the club they follow.
Levi is desperate to be in the metropolitan elite. He believes a super stadium will do the job.
Not for him the Leicester model in which a period of success on the pitch builds a following which demands a bigger facility.
It's like starting a company by buying a Bentley first.
His approach to life has been applauded by some of the fans but I suspect a more rational section are fed
up with this upside down view.
Views on the post match BBC Sport site suggest that many realise the trouble is top down and only when club policy is driven
by normal economics will they really get where they want to be.
Their noisy fellows who think that changing things at middle management can do the job are destined to endless frustration.

Ever since that bastard, Allen did Len Chalmers. I was only one yearold but I remember it well
That Spurs double winning side managed by Bill Nicholson was a truly great team though. I watched them at Filbert Street early sixties a few times.
Their centre forward was Bobby Smith and he scored the first goal in the 1961 FA Cup Final against Leicester City. He is Spurs third highest ever goal scorer with 208 goals scored in 317 Senior matches including 12 hat tricks.
By 1967 he was playing for Hastings United in the old Southern League and I saw him play at Middlefield Lane against Hinckley Athletic. He was rather portly by then and a lot slower but still a great footballer and making the ball do the work!

Started for me when we went up to the premiership....we beat spurs and it was on sky sports I remember joachim and Lowe scoring....but all through the game there were a few in the east stand just gobbling off....to our amazement the police didn't keep them in and it kicked off outside pen 4 big time.
The league cup game I heard reports off people I trust that a few pissed up spurs had threatened a family mum dad young kids....and they were taken care of 👊

That was the Battle of Britain theme to Klinsmann 🖕

I remember an interview with Kane immediately after the win at Stoke where "we're coming for you " started. He was bigging it up, it was just a matter of time before we imploded and they went top.We have had a poor record against them at the KP recently so yesterday was a really satisfying result. Onwards and upwards.

It's not them, it's the fighting cocks who think they are owed trophies, and the press constantly bigging them up even though they've won fuck all for ages. Having an entire radio station dedicated to them doesn't help either.
They're the Newcastle of the south.
