What Was Up With The Under Soil Heating?

Didn't seem to do very well in thawing the snow when it was settling.
Did someone forget to turn it on?
Are they not allowed to have it on when a game is in progress?
Do they not know how it works?
Saw the highlights of Man City game and their heating seemed much more effective.

The Man City snow clearing efforts were featured on MOTD. It wasn’t the heating that removed the snow, it was a small army with the wide brushes and spades….. as opposed to ‘the Leicester Four’

Including ‘Leaf blowing Larry’. It looked like our lot were totally unprepared. There should have been a whole army of helpers to clear the pitch. At 65 mins I honestly couldn’t see how they were going to finish the match

We dodged a bullet there. There have been many instances of a side winning an abandoned match losing the replayed game. I have no idea what advice the Refs get but yesterday he could have been forgiven for concluding that if we couldn't be arsed to keep the lines clear, and the lines were the problem, then Vardy could hardly complain if the match got abandoned. And Rodgers couldn't blame it on the fans.
As I type this at quarter to nine I hope Susan is giving someone a bollocking.

It was noticeable that the West side of the pitch had much less snow settling on the grass than the East side which was uniformly white covered in snow.
Why would that be?

At this time we are experiencing high demand for our snow clearing professionals, you may experience a longer wait than usual or only a partial service

Coronavirus, the 21st century excuse for being shit / incompetent/ lazy / cost cutting/ substandard / booing

They merely did what was asked of them by the referee - that is to clear the snow from the lines and no more. At Man City the officials decided to extend the half-time interval so that snow could be cleared from the pitch (which is why their game finished after ours). The undersoil heating was operating at both grounds and was initially ineffective at both venues owing to the sheer amount of snow falling. As the snowfall eased during the latter stages of the second half, you could see that the undersoil heating was working as large swathes of green grass became visible...

...also undersoil heating isn't really intended to melt fresh snowfall rapidly. It is intended to avoid a frozen pitch and slowly melt any accumulated snow before a game so that it can go ahead. Consequently the temperature applied is not all that high and you also do not want to ramp-up the temperature because you can cause damage to the grassroots apparently....

What I thought was absolutely crazy was there was a massive delay when Kasper questioned the Watford goal. The ground staff then could have come on to start to clear the lines but no, they left it till that was done then started.

Then there was another stop in play and they could have cleared the centre circle but they didn’t.

That they never got an orange ball was ridiculous.

But that would be the fault of the officials and not the ground staff...

And I was more than happy with only 7 mins of extra time.
What with all the stoppages in 2nd half it could have been 10 mins or even 12 mins.

dont have to clear the center circle, just the lines, and yes the ball should have been changed.

Surely this should be in Compost Corner?

the sprinkler thing was covered by RL - just heard it on the podcast and it's already escaped my brain.

something to do with water providing a thermal barrier to retain the heat that was coming through the undersoil.

reference changing the ball - that WAS the hi-vis ball. as supplied by nike.
