I have never said that 'family' life was perfect, I have enough experience of our own families to know that but the idea of breaking them up and making people dependent on the state is criminal. Did/do men need to up their game, absolutely, do women need to re-evaluate their lifestyles, yes, that too.

Surprisingly I am not the neanderthal stereotype that you imagine, though I have no intention of justifying myself on this board. I just happen to find 'Progressive' politics to be abhorrent.

Morning Mistryman. Thats the point, it sounds preferable.

But it isn't. it is regressive, authoritarian and among other things, racist.

Put simply, it emphasises racial differences, allows children to be sexually abused introduces moral relativism to children too young to understand it and cancels the lives of anyone who dares to express views contrary to the narrative.
 
Any social reform can be labelled as "progressive." Depends on your viewpoint.

Progression indicates change.

You have a warped view of the world AFC. Have you considered seeing someone, to find out where your concealed anger comes from?

That's a fairly broad net you've spread there - if someone's an obviously racist idiot for example, then it's got nothing to do with being contrary, it's just wrong. Those people need to think about how society is improved by their utterances.

Lables Sixthswan. The reality of 'progressive' social policies is that they are not seeking to improve things but to establish a new repressive norm. It is obvious to me, but apparently not to you.

When I can chat to someone perceptive enough to recognise 'concealed anger' in someone they have never met, why should I consider 'seeing someone'?

This is the big difference between 'progressives' and people like me. I believe that as an adult, you can think and live your life as you please (usual caveats apply). If I do not agree with your views we can chat about them, which may or may not be enlightening and worthwhile but I have no interest in forcing such a person to change those views by force.

But this is exactly what 'progressives' do, they require you to share there views and support the 'progressive' narrative, if you do not do so they will ruin your life.

By suggesting that someone who has different views to yourself needs to 'see someone', presumably so these errant views can be corrected, is a perfect example of the way 'progressives' think.

Firstly a general point, just because one of the alternatives to progressive policies is wrong does not make the progressive stuff right.

OK. There is absolutely nothing wrong with profiling, it is how criminal investigations work. The key word here is Criminal, profiling should be done for Criminal reasons not racial. Racist behaviour is racism, we have laws against that, use them.

Sadly child abuse has been with us forever but that is no excuse for progressive policies that protect and institutionalise child abuse.

I am not a child psychologist but discussing moral relativism needs the capacity to apply rational thought, other wise it is teaching by rote, fine for multiplication tables but not this.

I'll try another way. Nobody is forcing you to change your views. But you seem to have a very negative view of life. It seems to me, a little sad to live life that way. To be so resistant to change. The world changes all the time. It is inevitable. You won't stop it happening. Sometimes it changes for the good. Sometimes it changes for the bad. There has never been any such thing as the good old days.

You write well. You make your points well. You are generally polite.

Lighten up a little. Let the love in. Enjoy what is Left...

I must be looking at it from a different angle then - on this issue specifically, I got the impression that the offenders & those of influence closest to them were doing everything to hush those that they’d abused, or covering up what they’d done.

That “progressiveness” (to give it the name you applied) means this is no longer the case as there are avenues for them to highlight these instances is a good thing, historically or currently - yes?

After all, could being progressive be applied to the Victoria Derbyshire show & the horror those guys endured? Look at the way that was buried in less “progressive” times.
