Vestergaard

Not defending todays performance but against man city he was excellent, let's not rubbish the bloke already. Collectively we aren't having the best of starts but come on, some of them have only been here 5 minutes.

Very good mate is a very long time Saints fan. Swan Vesta is dead slow and doesn't jump his full height in his opinion and Bertand is slow and "trouble". They don't miss either of them one bit.

Could Schmeichel have influenced the Vestergaard signing? Teammates at international level and presumably Kasper feels safer watching corners from his goal line with Vestergaard there.

Was also meant to be a big threat at corners yet we continue to score faack all from corners/set pieces

I’d be quite happy never to see Bertrand in the First Team ever again. Bring back young Luke.
Yes. If I were young Luke from Syston I would be wondering how the hell Bertrand was getting in the team ahead of me.

As for Vestergaard, I remember being alarmed at the Wolves game when, shortly after Vestergaard came on, Adama Traore knocked him over (without fouling him) before wasting a very good chance. "Well, Traore is a unit," I tried to reassure myself. "He could knock anybody over."

It's harder to reassure yourself when you realise that a skinny waif like Matěj Vydra can knock Vestergaard over just as easily.

More worrying was how easily Vydra created a couple of yards for the cross leading to their second. Vestergaard turned like a supertanker.

It was a panic buy because we desperately needed a central defender and he was available at the right price.

The problem with assessing players' ability is that they face different opponents every week. And they are different in ability and style.
A defender may struggle against a certain type of forward in one match and dominate another the following week.
The player referred to as a 'liabilty' above is a talented international player for a well regarded country. Do you really think he somehow fluked his way into playing regularly against world class opponents? Or that every defender who can*'t handle Jamie Vardy is rubbish? Or that professional management know less than you?

Without repeating myself ad infinitum I regularly drink with some Saints season ticket holders who told me Swan Vesta was slower than Matt Mills, is about 6 foot 6" but about 6 foot when he leaves the ground and we've wasted £15 million. In their words we were "sold a pup". I don't care what professional management think it's irrelevant to my opinion.

You wouldn't of got any better centre backs for that amount of money though

I'm sure Thomas isn't thinking he knows he's the future of this club and he can learn a lot of Bertrand.
