First half we played like we have done since the break, had plenty of possesion, tippy tappy at the back and midfield but zero penetration up front. We did compete well, but no creativity.
i stand by my earlier assessment that we just don't get round the back anymore. We played in front of forest all day and we were easy to deal with. We had a 33 year old winger/wing back on one side, nothing on the other, and a 36 year old striker. is it any wonder?
Having said that they barely threatened us either, it was pretty much a stalemate.
Second half they stepped up a gear and we didn't.
The subs wrecked us for 15 mins until we worked out how to play again, but it was still a shite second half. we looked second best all over the pitch, and were pedestrian in possession.
Forest deservedly won.
Questions
how the fuck was barnes not yanked at halftime? he was woeful, as was that miss, it was like playing with 10. thomas isn't the greatest left back but he got no help from him and was left exposed repeatedly.
what is the point of playing two defensive mids if you're beaten by a ball over the top through the middle? the point of defensive mids is to force play wide and around.
felt sorry for tielemans, he tried but as the lone creative force he was lost, can't criticize him today, he put a shift in and was lucky to stay on the pitch.
The stats read like the puel era:
61% possession, 1 shot on target in 90 mins. one! and that was the weak-ass barnes shot, a 10 year old could've shot harder.
I'm not a doom monger, but we are going down playing like this. We are stale, predictable and average, we need change, we need freshness, and creativity.
Dyche was in the stands watching the game, is he incoming? i'll take anybody right now as bodgers has to go by sunday evening.
ps - it's hard to type when your hands are shaking because you're angry.
