The Gate Hangs Well, Syston

The GHW seemed pretty busy on a sunny wekend, but other times? the problem there is that there is very little footfall..

Nice on a summer evening to sit out in the garden.
Weird thing was even when i lived in EG i went to Queni, Rearsby or Syston pubs way more.
The only time i went to the GHW with any regularity was when i was doing cross country at Wreake Valley and used to run to the fence at the back across the railway lines.

it was built before the A46 bypass took all the traffic away, just like the hope and anchor was uber popular before the bypass was built and wanlip road used to go up to the a6 roundabout.
Years ago the pub had a good landlord who kept a very good bar and meal menu that was until his stupid mistake led to his downfall, l have never been in since after the grapevine told me the takeover was not going to be as good as he was.

What was the stupid mistake?

I seem to remember he allowed about 500 Hells Angels to have a birthday party in the pub and the garden at a time when there was a lockdown during the covid pandemic.
Sorry it was a biker's funeral.

Even though I am now local it has never been a regular watering hole for me but I have to say I find the whole "I've not tried it but it's not as good as it was" essentially based on the familial relations of the manager & rumours regarding previous businesses a little odd though I can understand if a sense of loyalty to a previous manager might make someone shun a venue.

Just down the road for me, use to go regular, nice pint decent food, reasonable prices, now overpriced mucked about food. Not been for years.
