The bit I find very confusing is how we went from letting in bagfuls of goals in the first 7 games (22) to just 3 in the next 8 games. We managed 6/8 clean sheets. Just so we all understand we haven’t kept a clean sheet since. So no clean sheets in games 1-7 and 16-26. 18 matches!
So what happened in those 8 matches. 2 of the 3 were at Bournemouth. A pitiful display and the other goal was a wonder strike by De Bruyne. That’s it. Why. I know the new guy came in to organise the set pieces but what happened generally at that time?
On looking at the team before we blame Amartey, he played in 6/8 of those games. One he missed was the Bournemouth defeat!. The only thing that’s different since that time was JJ was injured before the WC. But surely it’s not him missing as to why we’re now conceding.
Something is fundamentally wrong in the whole set up. Yes we know the WC did us no favours but we’ve been terrible since Xmas picking up just 7 points.
My main point of writing this is we’re ( me included) blaming Carlton Palmers secret love child ( DM) for our defending. But what happened in those 8 games which meant we conceded so few compared to the rest of this season?
