Started writing this in a WhatsApp group, but ended up going full notes app, and this isn't even the half of it
Today wasn't good enough, not even close, we all know that. The fact that the players showed no desire, courage, fight or nous today tells us all we need to know about this side. We're massively in the shit, and it's plain to see that these players are incredibly unlikely to get us out of it. Anything we get now is a bonus.
The reaction of the paying fans in the ground today is understandable, and we're entitled to voice our opinion.
It was very telling that at the final whistle, an example was set by a 20 year old kid who only signed in January. All the others absolutely shit themselves, whilst he walked round to applaud the fans. Hopefully we can keep him around the place for a bit longer.
The players and coaches are unable to get out of the Rodgers mindset, and we will ultimately suffer because of it.
We all knew Rodgers needed to go, but unfortunately, it has been left too late. Frustratingly, he leaves with his reputation largely intact, by taking a cut in his pay-off and leaving under 'mutual consent', and also by the statement saying he feels he would have kept us up, he can't lose. If we stay up, it's his team anyway, if we go down, he'll say we should have stuck with him. Like all the best conmen, he's very confident, and very clever.
Which brings us to the board.....
They've left it too late, believing Rodgers' bullshite that if we keep doing what we were doing it will all be fine.
They've then been forced to take action, because it got as bad as it has, but with no contingency plan in place which is (nearly) as bad as sticking with Brenda.
We have signed players to massive contracts that either aren't good enough (Soumare, Bertrand, Veestegard), or are nearing the end of their careers (Vardy), whilst letting other valuable assets eun contracts down thus reducing their financial value to us in sell-ons (Tielemans/Maddison).
If it's Coach Jesse that comes in, the theory is that he knows the 'RB' model of running a club, (buying young talent, developing, and then selling on at a profit). if thats the case, then we need a new CEO and DoF as a bare minimum, because their track record since Vichai has been frankly woeful. And I think for me, thats one of the hardest pills to swallow. The legacy of the man that delivered the impossible dream is being pissed up the wall. We had a golden ticket and they've sent it up in flames. A brand new, world class training ground and a proposed stadium expansion sounds great, but somewhere along the way, it seems to have been forgotten that we need to win a few games of football along the way, or else it's all for nought.
I genuinely wonder wether Khun Top is considering selling up now he's cleared the debts to King Power.
I'm resigned to us going down now, even though there's still mathematical hope, because I've seen nothing in the last week that suggests we have it in us to gain (m)any more points.
If we go down, I think it will be an utter disaster. Don't be fooled by Burnley, they've made it look exceptionally easy, and it isn't.
Whatever happens, I'll still be there when I can, because it's my team, and I really wouldn't have it any other way. I just hope that whatever league we're in next season, I'll be watching a team that I can be proud of.
