So, why do footballers use the wrong tense?

baddiel and skinner used to call it "footballers tense". a mash up of past, present and future tenses, all in one non-sensical ramble.

Oooh, JG.. where do we start with footballer speak. We could have a longest thread!
It’s expected from footballers and I’m always surprised when one speaks eloquently, Che Adams gave a very good account of himself on last week’s Football Focus. Also James Ward Prowse recently.
The best though is when they mix up their phrases and sayings, taking two elements and making one.....”couldn’t hit a barn door with banjo”
What does annoy me is pundits that can’t speak properly, becoming more prevalent in recent’PC’ times.
Most annoying though, female footballers...trying to outdo their male counterparts with laddish slang.... Saturday’s five live featured “yeh, Alex da best, I never seen nobody mug er off”
