Pubs in Stamford

I’m meeting a mate for his birthday later in Stamford. Are there any decent ale pubs in the town? I’ve driven through a few times but have never stopped off.

Shane just beat me to it Daggers. The Bible, aka last year's CAMRA Good Beer Guide, lists all three.

Possibly… That and I don’t have a decent local to get to know people in. Well not one that sells decent beer anyway.

Ay up C.
Tobie Norris, definitely. Following on from that, and just down the High Street is the Kings Head. Bottom of the road you have the slightly different snobby style Patten and Co and The Crown. Take your credit cards there. There’s also a ‘Spoons and The London Inn, the latter with many screens showing sport.
Avoid The Green Man on geographical and health grounds. Same applies to The Golden Fleece.
I’ll be in the Tobie later, I’ll keep my eyes open for you.

Oh, and it’s the last night of the fair. Keep your wits about you, lots of out of town types looking for “opportunities”.

Bull and Swan ( St Mary's without) usually has a decent beer or two plus a decent outside space, the tobie norris is probably the best of the lot with plenty of seating over a couple of floors avoid the golden fleece as bog standard everards pub

I got delayed for an hour because the tube was totally closed out my way. Arrived just gone 1 after a beer in the Brewery Tap, Peterborough.

Met my friends in Patten & Co (decent place I liked it) for two beers. We had lunch booked at Mama Liz’s for 2.30 and we were in there for 3 hours!! My misses then wanted to head home so we bailed.

What a lovely place though, well apart from the fairground taking ip most of the town centre!! I’ve been through it on the train countless times, drove through it a few on the way to Skeggy and past it up the A1 but never into the centre. I will return for a night away sometime soon for sure.

Thanks for all the recommendations.

The fairground was quite substantial and yet to me it didn't seem the right place for it.
The buildings, architecture and narrow little alleyways with some real quality shops, cafes and pubs could rival anywhere in the Cotswolds imo.
