Never ever tire of looking at such pics. You’re like Merlin Micky, conjuring up the ghosts of our youth.

Both of those games stood out, Micky. I was in the Kop for the Liverpool game, and my feet kept losing contact with the floor. I was in the Popular Side for Viva, because I got there late. The noise for Ally’s second was like Seville at home almost fifty years later.

We could only get in the Mainstand for Sunderland, it was chaos, every time we got within 10 yards ofa turnstile, bang!! the door would shut. We somehow got into the Mainstand with Dad doing a bit of a deal up with the gateman.

Remind me again where Grasmere St was in those days, Mickey.
Because these days Grasmere St runs across Jarrom St and ends at the little park just before the F-Bar on the left.
Then cross Walnut St and you join Burnmoor St. And that runs past the Popular side.
So how is Grasmere St near the old ground?
This may have been discussed before.

Grasmere St was the name of the now Burnmoor Street, The council changed in in 1972

My first game was in the Popular Side.
Was like walking through those terraced house alley ways into Aladdins Cave.

Just fantastic Micky. A true genius at work. Your attention to detail is immense.

1969 eh. Yes a season never to be forgotten. The 5th round match many times postponed finally played on what looked like Blackpool beach. The highs of getting to the final and then it all fell apart.
Was in the wing stand the night of the Sunderland match. Yes the crescendo of noise when Ally scored his second was immense. We used to sit in front of two guys from Cov. One of them just picked me up like a doll when we scored.
Sadly the season was all ended by the two Manc clubs. Very sad for a 10 year old.

Couple of shots of Grasmere Street - 1 is the corner of Grasmere and joining to the Double Decker and 2 is the Popular Side entrance in its 1969 guise, this was difficult to replicate to any degree of accuracy, quite pleased with it though.

Did Grasmere Street become Burnmoor Street? When was that?

I still walk down Grasmere Street on the way from the Secret Boozer to the ground and then passed the Turnstile (or whatever it's called now).

1972 when all the road layout was changed. For a while after the change the street signs said BURNMOOR STREET with in smaller letters (FORMALLY GRASMERE STREET)

Have to put my name in with the rest Micky, brilliant, you da man! I was a late starter, I went with my cousin in '66, Everton, I can still feel the shock, going through a terraced house to see my first City game, followed by the thrill of walking onto the terrace and see the wonder of the popular side and the wonderful Filbert Street pitch, my first football game and still hooked on our wonderful teamYou have pushed back the years for loads of us Micky, Thanks.
