Player Departures

Going to be painful to see it all being dismantled and players leaving. Hopefully, there will be some positivity in the coming season though, just no more side to side nowhere passes please.

I know people won’t agree but genuinely not bothered about Maddison leaving-spent most of his time on the floor rolling around. How much will be raised in player sales?

Painful ? It's been painful over the last year or so watching them.
Them leaving will be the beginning of the long road back. We may well struggle for a long while, but we will find our feet again.
Anyway they let us all down.
It's these players that will leave a sour stain on us for years to come. So no tears here.
I am looking forward to seeing some new players putting a shift in and fighting for the club again. They may not have the quality but nobody can criticise so long as the effort is there. That's something that's been sadly lacking from many of those who will be departing.

Be careful what you wish for, Paul Ramsey and Iain Hulme put plenty of effort in.

You know what ... I think we might have seen the best of Tielemans and some of the others (possibly including Maddison) anyway. The way we did with Drinkwater. Be interesting to see what form they have elsewhere.
Plenty of players over the years have left us and not progressed their careers. I've said before those who have genuinely done so can almost be counted on one hand.

I'll never criticise players for their lack of quality so long as they give us 100%.
It's an inevitability that the incoming players will not be at the level of some of those departing, which is why it's even more infuriating that those that have served us have not performed to the levels they were capable of.

It would be nice if the world was like that .. but not sure it is. Of course you ideally want quality and commitment. But quality players with questionable commitment (Maddison / Youri) sometimes win. Committed players with little quality (Amartey) almost never win at the top level.

I accept that but I am eluding to the fact that whatever players we recruit, either will not, or not immediately be of the same calibre.
You don't get top quality for £10m these days and with a championship budget that's probably about where we will be regarding incoming players. That's of course after we have cut the cloth in the first place.
It's not going to be easy but once we are clear of FFP limitations, then we shouldn't forget that Top must still be one of the wealthiest owners outside of the Prem, despite his battering in duty free.
I still have hope for us but I am not confident of an overnight upturn in fortunes.
We are building from scratch and it will take time.

We need to encourage those going to depart ASAP. We don't want players huming and hawing about going all window long, then disappearing with 2 days till the end of window, thus having no time to replace them. Quick amputation is the only way.

If you believe those market values then excluding Tete that’s over £70m gone down the swanny although who’d give you €15m for Amartey is questionable to say the least. But I’d say both Youri and Söyüncü are worth more than what’s been listed if they’d have been on longer contracts.
What annoys me is that historically it seems you’ll only get 60-75% for a player when you’ve been relegated compared if you’d have been in the PL. I can see Maddison, unless there are 2-3 clubs fighting over him, going for no more than £40m which is scandalous.

i disagree.
i think with the poor season and bad feelings and negativity associated with so many first teamers it's a blessing a lot of them are going.
we don't just need to clear out the rubbish dead wood (the good players will be off regardless), but we also need to refresh the team's psychology before the season starts, so the fans can give them a clean slate.

Well none of them need encouraging to go quickly as they're all out of contract and whether they officially leave now or on Jun 30th makes no odds. It's the ones on contracts and who we don't want to keep & we might get money for or who we can't realistically keep we need moving on asap. But it also needs clubs to want them AND be prepared to pay what we want (and for those that we paid good money for and who aren't about to enter the last year of their contracts "cut price" is not likely to be an option). Easier said than done I expect.

40 mill for a player with just a year left on his contract, when we’ve just been relegated, is decent I think. I think that’s what’s left on his contract anyway. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Yes he has a year left but he’s a young English player (there’s a premium to pay for that) and whether we’ve just been relegated or not shouldn’t make a difference to his value.

It shouldn’t do but it will unless a few clubs all go after him.

Which to be fair has been reported.

Won't make a difference to his market value but is likely to impact how much we can get unless there's a bidding war (or we decide to keep him... HA!)

Although we are losing out of contract players for nothing, think of the wages we are gonna save by not paying them. Tielemans was on a hell of a whack that's why we couldn't get anyone to buy him.
