P&O Ferries

They’ve kept their French and Dutch crew . Couldn’t be anything to do with EU employment law could it ? They have replaced U.K. workers with cheap agency staff.

This must be what Mogg meant by slashing red tape and workers rights .

At last a Brexit bonus

I read somewhere that their contracts were in Jersey excluding them from both UK and EU law.

This is fire and rehire . EU employment laws wouldn’t allow this .

It’s what the country voted for apparently .

800 jobs in 3 minute video call . Great stuff eh

Even better. Tory MPs have voted to block legislation to stop their second jobs and pushed through MPs 2k pay rises 👍

And all the usual suspects come out
They sure do . Here comes Toryboy 😂

Bet you’re loving this .Making British workers - some of 20 years standing “redundant” and then giving their jobs to Jonny Foreigner .
It’s what you voted for .

Why would I be loving 'this'?

What is 'this'?

Well you voted to weaken workers rights.
At least you said you knew that

Oct 21 - Tories talked out a bill to make what P and O did illegal . Now some of those who did that are bleating about it .
Sickening

When did I I vote to weaken workers rights?

When did I say that I knew that?

No employment rights legislation has been repealed since we left the EU. The law remains the same as far as I am aware although I am happy to be corrected.

As I understand it . EU law would make what P and O did illegal .
Attempts to make “fire and rehire” illegal in this country was defeated in the Commons in Oct 21 by Tory MPs
If you think Brexit will make life better for working people this is a good example of the opposite

When did I vote to weaken workers rights?

When did I say that's what I voted for?

Well Brexiters told us they knew what they voted for .
So presumably you knew British workers are no longer protected in law from what has happened today ?

Incidentally. We could have changed our laws to make it illegal but the Tories talked it out in Oct 21.

I am therefore suggesting some of those MPs are now being a tad hypocritical by condemning Pand O after facilitating exactly what they did

BTW -employment law remains exactly what it was when we were in the EU.

Also the EU continues to finance the Russian attack on the Ukraine by upwards of €500 million per day. I find it odd that you are not concerned about this issue and have not chosen to comment

You have been away for a few days after your rants became ridiculous even by you standards yet you choose to jump in on this topic.

Odd deflection .

Okay - on the gas issue .
If the EU and other countries had heeded the warnings 20 years ago and reduced our reliance on fossil fuels by investing massively in renewables I suspect many of the worlds ills would be very different now .

As it is I agree . It’s worth the lights going off for a time here and in EU countries to stop financing Putin . Do you ?

The reason I have a break now and again is it gets tiresome being abused by the braindead Doug’s of this world .

I enjoy engaging with you sometimes as at least you have a view . Usually exactly the opposite to mine but that’s sort of the point of a politics board

Hazard a guess that shareholders will be receiving hundreds of millions a year in a couple of years.
Chances are you’re correct but they claim they’re dealing with the immediate future of the company

I can’t see what can be done to actually get these people their jobs back though, fines and sanctions won’t help and if they’re forced to keep the staff on they‘re unscrupulous enough to go into liquidation and the tax payer will pick up the cost of the redundancies

Now all those pesky EU regulations are not applicable hopefully most companies will learn from PandO by sacking all their decently paid workers and increase their profits and share dividends by employing cheaper labour.

Johnson whipped his party to vote against legislation which would stop this practise

People are finally waking up in Dover .- see the video with Natalie Elphick doing the rounds
