As a country we’ve stood still for the past decade or more. We all know if you stand still you go backwards.
When things were good taxes should have been raised a little and various programs put in place to benefit all of us.
Like proper investment in public transport, slowly bringing them back under public ownership.
Or proper investment into renewable energy & improving the EPC rating of houses. They’ve been playing around with it for years.
Or undertake a huge project to overhaul the NHS. It is long overdue.
It’s a mess and will take years to sort out.

Increasing tax is political suicide
Nationalised public transport didn’t work when it was BR, NBC or BRS we’re too independent minded to be herded (except for southern softies) There is no easy solution, the Big Four didn’t work but neither did BR
Renewable energy is a long way off but we should be doing as much as possible to be independent of fossil fuels especially those supplied by foreign countries, insulation is a massive task because of the age of our housing stock but we must try
The NHS is just too big to manage it will take the public to complain about the waste, mismanagement and downright fraudulent attitude in a small but significant number of senior people. It will also need the public to take more responsibility for their own well being. At the moment there is little political or public appetite for the revolution required
