Night of the long knives

Will top still be interested in the championship.....I also don't agree with the 'this team is better ' than the champions team.
But yes a clear out is needed...starting with rudkin.

Rudkins lists of failures is so massive, surely he should be resigning.

There are so many reasons why, but I'll focus purely on succession planning which should bread and butter for a DoF.

It was rumoured for months that congerton was off to Atalanta, yet we appeared to wait until he officially went before recruiting a replacement, which meant (with his notice period) that the new guy couldn't work during the summer transfer window. That was hugely disruptive , particularly in terms of moving on squad players and the last minute sale of fofana meaning we couldn't invest until this January .

But his biggest failure surely has to be around Rodgers removal and replacement. We all accept he waited too long to pull the trigger, but not having a replacement ready to go is absolutely criminal. Those two games under statler and waldorf will surely be right up the top of the long long list of costly mistakes in 2022/23.

l keep contemplating knocking it on the head for good, it fucks my life up too much. I keep considering doing something that will get me banned so l can't go back, have done for a year or so. Rodgers was a potential target in my thoughts at one time, but common sense took over, then again sometimes you have to do what you can and fuck the consequences. I'm not there yet in reality thank god.

I'm now thinking that we need a way to get 6 points out of this bag of shite, it could be done, but we have to get rid of the passengers and do a different approach - shit or bust !

Nothing is impossible, it only is if you don't try, or believe.

We should not have and do not need a Director of football, undermines the manager who should be in total control of the playing side of the project. Not just a coach hired in for a few months.

Keep it lean and simple so everyone knows what is required of them and who they are responsible to, shape up or...

I thought the prevailing view was that a large factor in our downfall was giving the manager too much influence over recruitment, backroom staff etc.

This isnt the 70s. I think you'll find that modern football needs more than a Cloughie type.

I agree.

They should be the "check and balance" for the football manager, they should be able to see through the bullshit and ensure things are as they should be. At all levels of the football operation.
They should be able to give clear feedback and advice to the owner/board (who will not be football 'experts').

Just like your CEO should be doing on the administrative side of the business.

We have witnessed here a complete failure of the DoF role. Too much power given to subordinates. No clear strategy in place (hence the line in the accounts about returning to previous transfer strategy). No apparent acknowledgement of the problems at other levels (u18, u21). No evidence of any succession planning, even though it was clear for months it would be required . No obvious strategy around player contracts (no club should have so many out of contract players across a 24month period). Inability to recognise the lack of character/personality/leadership within the squad .

What we witness now is such an obvious result when you consider the above.
