Police have arrested a 25-year-old Somalian man on suspicion of murdering the Conservative MP Sir David Amess, who was stabbed multiple times at his constituency surgery.
Sir David, the MP for Southend West in Essex, was attacked on Friday at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea.
Paramedics tried for two hours to save the 69-year-old father-of-five, but he died of his injuries and figures across the political spectrum have paid tribute to the "irreplaceable" MP.
Essex Police said a 25-year-old man had been arrested, and officers were not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
It is understood the man being held on suspicion of murder is of Somalian origin. A witness who described seeing him being taken away by the police said he was calm and compliant.
Security sources confirmed that the suspect was believed to be a Somalian, but police were still seeking to establish a motive for the attack.

Meant to be a bit 'tongue in cheek', Fg, doesn't always come across on the page.
There is a point though, many people believe that random attacks, murders and stabbings are disproportionately carried out by certain groups who are not, racially and culturally part of the wider British community.
This may or may not be the case, we do not really know as discussion of such events are pretty much not allowed in the media or public life in general.
