Enzo has written an article

Adumass

Bentleys Roofer
on the BBC sport page. It's bylined by his mate, but there's enough inside info in there that he's clearly told the guy what to write. Its got a few interesting bits in it.

A good article. I have no doubt that most of this is true.

One thing surprises me though. There is a reference to him being unhappy about the club and the impending FFP issues, and this is mentioned in conjunction with the January transfer window and Sensi not coming and Casadei leaving.

Casadei being recalled by Chelsea though has got nothing to do with FFP rules and there is nothing the club could have done about it, as this was solely a Chelsea decision. At least that's how I understood it at the time.

Guillem Balague cut an odd, out of place figure immaculately dressed, climbing to the very back of the stand at Preston, dodging lads who were smashed or coked up.

This guy is clearly Enzo’s mouthpiece and driving his agenda. Tbh, his general tone seems to be a condescending how lucky we are to have this guy as manager and if we don’t tow the line he’ll be off, rather than
any half-decent manager should have got that squad promoted.

I can’t say I’m too bothered but this guy is literally preparing the ground and the excuses already on Enzo’s behalf.

why i posted enzo is on his way on saturday, he is getting his excuses in now, that article written by his bestie and his ffp comments last week on the radio. surely when going for a job you do some due diligence and he must have known about the ffp

Just read it.
If that’s written by his spokesman I dislike him even more now.
I’d go so far as to say that the sooner he is out of our club the better.

The underlying and inter-linked themes - a lack of transparency and the failure to anticipate the consequences of poor financial planning - are ones that have dominated discussion on this forum for some time. Yes, they can be used for special pleading (Rodgers, for much of his last twelve months) but like it or not, they are now the defining characteristics of our club. Promotion, welcome as it is for lots of reasons, not least financial, won’t get us out of the hole that has been dug, these last few years. As thi# article strongly hints, we will doubtless continue to find it difficult to bring in, or hang onto, in demand players (and managers). And will we continue to struggle to remove dead wood too many players have sat out big contracts, then left for free, while Rodgers was almost too expensive to fire), we risk bringing in more. The harsh reality is that every campaign will have clouds hanging over it until someone at he club puts our financial house in order.

The thing that worries me is the people at the top handing out these contracts and signing these players are still in their chairs.

There’s nothing to suggest anything will change for years.

Players agents care not for us or any other club. They will continue to take the piss out of us while we are a soft touch.

Mavadivi signing a 5 year contract is exhibit A.

Out of contract:

2024 - Vardy, Albrighton, Ndidi, Iheancho, Praet, Vestergaard
2025 - Ward, McAteer
2026 - Justin, Daka, Winks, Pereira, Coady, Soumare, Stolarczyk, Marcal
2027 - Faes, KDH, Choudhury
2028 - Cannon, Mavididi, Hermansen, Souttar, Kristiansen

Not sure about Luke Thomas.

But we couldn't replace him with Sensi.

Well that's my interpretation.

Roll on next Summer when Ward will
probably retire.

Unless the wages are low and it’s a non brainier you have to be damned sure about a player before you dish out a 5 year contract.

So loanee wages don't count towards FFP?

Nailed it. I heard im on the BSLB podcast. Up Enzos arse a mile.

I have no idea.

My point was: Casadei was recalled because Chelsea decided to do so. Enzo or anybody else can't use this as an argument against the club or the FFP situation (unless you consider that he wasn't replaced).

Although the counterpoint is players running down their contracts to reduce their re-sale value, which is something that has hurt us as well.

The part we do not know is the terms of the contract and if pay is related to performance or are they still handing out Danny Ward style contracts..

Regarding "players running down their contracts" I've just read that Kylian Mbappé of all people is leaving PSG at the end of the season for nought.

So it's not just Leicester City but - of course - it appears to affect us quite often and perhaps more than others.

It suits the clubs because they don't have to pay out lump sums the "cost" of the player is spread over the length of the new contract.

Spot on. I give you Hamza’s new 4 year contract last year as exhibit B

Five year contracts can make sense for managements who are strapped for funds in the immediate present.
Players (and their agents, curiously absent from all this discussion) might value long term security over larger short term offers.
Particularly younger players whose career at a given level is not certain. I suspect Hamza is in this bracket...
All this business regarding contracts and their effect on clubs has grown so large in recent years that they are no longer regarded as the area in which 'coaches' should be concerned. This can lead to friction between the playing side who carry reponsibilty for results and those tasked with player retention and disposal.
Here at LCFC the relationship does not not seem to be that smooth and needs to be looked at. Where the last word rests is moot and dispute can result in the sort of mess which led to our relegation.
This issue of budget responsibility is at the core of success or failure in the modern, finance driven game.
Whilst true that it is an issue affecting many clubs, those that sort it will prosper...

i still say we should sell everybody we can and come back down having made a profit.
The 13 mill EFL loss limit will hamper us for the next 2 years or until the PL puts it's next great idea in place.

Only problem with that is that we would NOT come straight back up again, and we'd be stuck there for years, if not forever.
