I’ve just been told the same by a friend of mine, a Brentford fan who was told by someone who knows Smith personally.
 
This is the equivalent of Micky Adams and Dave Basett. And that era is now upon us, how the hell has it come to this!!!

the thing is that we are all as low as we possibly could be. We couldn't stand much more of this mis-management and lack of effort from everyone at the club.

we've got to get a manager who can kick these up the arse, but we've got to get one soon as them pair of Pineapple shouldn't even be at the club. l hope they are sacked in May.

We've got to hope they choose right, for a change. Sticking with that cunt as been disastrous and l hate him even more (if possible) now he said "he'd have kept us up". what an absolute dog of a man.

If I was Benitez I would drop out if I knew the other competitor for the job is Dean Smith

It seems that Rafa wants a longer deal, but Smith is happy for deal to end of season. Shakespeare will come with him and there is talk of John Terry as well.
 
As Astley has said on another thread, we have to be realistic.
we can't afford to appoint another 'big name' boss on a long contract and silly wages when the likelihood is, we'll be playing in the championship next season.
Outside of bodgers, when have we appointed a top line manager in the past 25 years? he is an outlier (and my tongue is firmly in my cheek there).
The saddest part about all of this is we had currency to break into the top 6 or 8 clubs and we've pissied it away on shit managers and shit recruitment since Ranieri left (with the odd exception) to the point where we have no choice but to appoint a DS like manager.
Rudkin needs his p45 in the summer, he's overseen all of this decline and should not avoid accountability.

While Terry was on Villas staff under Smith they were better and their defence was better. After he left they were crap when it was Smith without him and same when Smith was at Norwich also without him. Say what you want about him but blokes a winner and a born leader. He’d get into some of our shithouses I’m sure.
