County v Hants Cup Final

When I last watched cricket regularly in the 70/80s if the bowling side could restrict the batterists to 7 or 8 needed per over in the last few overs then they were in good shape. But the commentators seemed sure Hampshire were odds on to win from 10 overs out.
They were.
But didn't.
:)

Fantastic victory with 4 local lads in the line up, and a big congratulations to Leicester Ivanhoe for bringing on MOM Harry Swindells.

It's a shame the side is breaking up, I'm not sure if you Roofers know, but Harry has been released from the County and has to look for a new club.

Looks like they may have changed their minds!!

The same source told me that Parkinson, Ackermann and the other one who I forget, were only offered the same terms as they had been on, and obviously other Counties have bettered our offfer, so they are Offski.

When Cox came in I wondered why but assumed that they thought Handscombe was not returning.
Now....

I’ve not taken much notice of the county in recent years albeit I did realise we were pretty awful. So a question about yesterday.
They said that the team they played were pretty much all youngsters that they’d decided to play in this competition and stuck with them. So how big a shock was yesterdays win. Hants are it seems a much better and bigger side yet we won. What were the odds to win yesterday? The commentators seemed to be saying it was an unreal win. Thanks.

Leicestershire were 2.38 (11/8) on betfair pre toss and Hampshire 1.72 (8/11) so only slight underdogs really.

We had more first teamers available for the comp as Hants were decimated by Hundred call ups. To the credit of both clubs they resisted the temptation to promote the returning big guns for the final.

We now have 4 keepers in theory but Lewis Hill is captain and probably doesn't need that added responsibility. Also Hanscombe is primarily a batter. I'd think James Taylor will look to work Harry Swindells into a batter rather than gloveseman that can bat. Hill has been out of touch but when he handed over the gloves last year he started scoring a lot of runs.

About time we got some credit and it looked like the Sky commentary team were very much on Leics side. It's an excellent endorsement of what they are doing at Grace Road, being captained by a local and 3 academy graduates making the telling contributions. And at the home of the county renowned for not producing from their own academy and relying on us to do the hard yards.

I think there were restrictions on parachuting hundred players into the Final if they hadn't played in earlier rounds.....

Don't think so, I know Kent did the same last year and that set a precedent. Dawson played in the knock outs for Hants having been in the Hundred for the group stages. They raised it in the post match interviews.

With respect, I reckon anyone else who has invested much time watching the county over the past ten years would also have had them a damn sight longer than that, nor been particularly surprised by the first half hour

The most amazing cricket match I've ever been to. From the depths of despair to winning a cup final on the last ball. Like Claridge scoring at Wembley in 1996. Absolute bedlam amongst the City/County fans, who had been brilliant all day. Incredible atmosphere and great for the Club.

You’re probably right in terms of how Leicestershire fans might have felt.
It’s not really my opinion I’m just saying what the actual exchange market made it, not shanetkoxgcuntbet.com.
They did win every game bar one in the group stage and were the joint least affected team by the Hundred in the country. Hampshire finished lower in their respective group.
Notions of superstition or size of club won’t come into play when the markets are made.
I can see why the prices were the way they were myself.
Can’t recall exactly where the odds were at 19/4 but I would expect Leicestershire will have been about 14/1 and I dunno if many will have been rushing to get stuck into that price 😃
