You and Bnet are spot on. 95/96 was a similarly bonkers promotion campaign, in terms of runs of form. When McGhee deserted us in search of a bigger dessert, we were top. Then our form was all over the place in the early months of MON. In spite of those two memorable wins in the smoke inside a week, we still needed to win the last four games to squeak into the Play Offs. Success tends to scrub out a lot of the painful memories of how we got there. It’s only the failed promotion campaigns that fester (like 69/70).Totally agree Bnet
Any team winning three from ten should be nowhere near promotion
Teams with players that would have struggled in a good pub team to get a game should
not be in a promotion winning side
A manager who can only play one style of football should not be managing a promotion winning side
A club so totally mismanaged should not be winning promotion
But eh oh we are Leicester and we do crazy things and long term fans like you and me have seen
many crazy times
Totally agree...they are the only team winning at the moment, wouldn't be a surprise at all if they go up automatically. It wouldn’t surprise me if Southampton go directly up.
After a mid season slump we were never really in serious contention in 69/70 if I recall correctly and our good finish made it look closer than it was. At least it made FOF aware of what needed to be done for next season. Toughen up the midfield which he did admirably. 69/70 was the end for those great servants Bobby Roberts and David Gibson. You and Bnet are spot on. 95/96 was a similarly bonkers promotion campaign, in terms of runs of form. 69/70 was any funny season to remember because l was 12 -13 and started to get to love the football fan culture, little skinheads basically, and all that went with it. l think football and the fucking about was equal, the world was opening up for us at that age. After a mid season slump we were never really in serious contention in 69/70 if I recall correctly and our good finish made it look closer than it was. I remember it as a season that promised an instant return to the top flight, until that slump in December and January. But once we started winning again, I really thought we could do it, right up until that Fern winner got stuck in the mud in front of the Kop.After a mid season slump we were never really in serious contention in 69/70 if I recall correctly and our good finish made it look closer than it was. Yes that the bit I remember, a football pitch goalmouth resembling a ploughed field and the ball stopping dead in a puddle!I remember it as a season that promised an instant return to the top flight, until that slump in December and January. I wouldn't admit to that, it's not something to be proud of. Basically acting like a criminal and hooligan. By the way is the world you always openly criticise?69/70 was any funny season to remember because l was 12 -13 and started to get to love the football fan culture, little skinheads basically, and all that went with it. l think football and the fucking about was equal, the world was opening up for us at that age.
Daz, I think you will find that not every kid was angelic back then.I wouldn't admit to that, it's not something to be proud of. Basically acting like a criminal and hooligan. By the way is the world you always openly criticise?
Just to say that in the late 60s/early 70s being a skinhead didn't mean you were a 'criminal and hooligan'.I wouldn't admit to that, it's not something to be proud of. Basically acting like a criminal and hooligan. By the way is the world you always openly criticise?
