Being a Grass

I've never grassed on anyone in my life and I don't want to. (Okay, I accept if someone's a nonce, a murderer, an abuser, I'd be open to it.)

But outside of that, I wouldn't want to hang around with grasses or anyone who reports people for trivial shit to trivial authorities.

One thing I've listened to, over the years from people who grew up in, worked in and lived in a communist country, was how the power and control was often kept and wielded, on a day-to-day basis, by petty, fucking horrible grasses.

Talking to a friend who grew up in Transylvania, he talks about ruined lives, destroyed families, and his fear as a kid of the knock on the door and what came next (repeatedly). All it took was someone to get jealous, not like the look of you.... Absolutely anything, but once you were grassed on, you were on the radar and fair game.

About ten years ago, his dad got a knock on the door. It was a really old man, who wanted to say sorry: the old, local police chief who used to come round repeatedly, search the house, sometimes take away the dad to the cells, accuse them of this thing and that, all of which was made up. His dad accepted the apology, but didn't invite him into the house though.

You get the state brainwashing people, get them in a frenzy over something like Covid and 'right-wing extremists' and all of a sudden, you get some Walter Mitty-type bozo on a football message site, who's swallowed it all, to think it's legit to rat on folks.

With his minions encouraging him.
Fucking weird if you ask me.

:ROFLMAO: He was a school teacher in a town. Most people in the town, for a couple of hundred years, were either Hungarian or Saxon, but, naturally, it was controlled by the Romanian state.
That more or less guaranteed a feeling of 'them and us' that in many places was just about people verses party members, but in a place like this, it became ethnic too. The Saxons were 'bought' by West Germany in the 80s. My friend lost all of his German friends that he grew up with at that time, although they've since found each other Facebook.

Grassing is bad.
It can involve reporting people to the authorities, for personal gain or some other advantage.
It can also involve sharing information about others to a group, for the same motivations.
It is putting information out in public and breaking trust.
Both are dirty tactics, to be avoided.
Probably best to stick to girly gossiping behind backs...
