At What Point?

Lingers Long On Cank Street
in the conduct of any enterprise do you stop excusing the inexcusable? Managers who are paid the big bucks in every walk of life are rightly accountable for the individual mistakes of all those who work for them. A big environmental spill, a huge corruption scandal, a rail or air crash, or the killing on the streets of innocent civilians by people in uniform, members of society cannot simply shrug their shoulders and say ‘management needs to go again, or speak with a different voice’. Still less do we come up with ‘management cannot be held accountable for the individual mistakes of those they lead’. Such attitudes rankle bitterly. They also keep everything we hold dear in the hands of incompetents, and leave us all at mortal risk.
