2 points for a win

That Ipswich side c 1975 was very good indeed.
They played Leeds in 2nd and 3rd Cup Replays at Filbo, I was lucky to see the third one, Ipswich won it 3-2 with a great goal from outside the area by Clive Woods.

One of the best quality matches I ever saw at the old ground

With two points for a win in 1990/91, Tony James’ heroics on the final day would have counted for nothing, because West Brom would have stayed up, and we would have gone down to the old Division Three.

Except of course the whole reason for the change from 2 to 3 was to encourage & reward teams for going for wins, had it been 2 points who knows if the scores across the season would have been the same. Just think, with it only being 2 points we'd have been escaping from Middlesbrough & Hull with a point from each after dour backs-against-the-wall defensive masterclasses... HA!

(Luckier was that were they not reorganising the league that year normally a 22nd place finish would have seen us relegated.)
