100 car pile-up outside of London (Canada)

Not that anyone here would care, but I was out in that. Along with anyone else stupid/unfortunate enough. When I got home, it took to me an hour to sit and just let the tension go.
My faith in humanity is restored though, everyone else who was out, knew exactly what was going on and took huge care. Minus a few ugly exceptions I had the misfortune to witness :(

Every time there’s a huge pile up in the snow it’s always in Canada. Do you lot have to take a driving test? Why would anyone travel at such speed in those conditions?

There's nothing you can do, you can't see. If you pull over you're a sitting duck, your lights will draw other vehicles. Best you can do is find the lights of someone in front of you, reduce speed and follow. Reduce speed too much and you lose traction and you're stuck. You have no idea how fast anyone else is going, it's a crapshoot.

The Yanks do it pretty well, from the I-94

And follow them off the road if they lose control? Top tip bud.

Indeed it is Crutch.
I'm a bit of a philosopher when it comes to driving and come to the conclusion that good drivers never stop. Stopping is a sign of weakness and will allow other vehicles to overtake and bully you. If you can't go forward, go backwards, just so long as you are moving.
By following someone else, you also have more time to change radio stations, eat sandwiches and get into a heated game of solitaire while commuting.

You’ve told him too much, you’ll have the Mounties kicking your door in with a whole host of motoring charges against you.

They don't worry me, we pay taxes so ticketing isn't a revenue generator. There's no enforcement.

We do have these festive Christmas lights installed to amuse children at intersections.

^^
Just ignore those when you come across them.
You'd laugh so hard man, they've started installing roundabouts here and no-one knows what to do and how they work - peoples brains just explode. Drive through a roundabout, it's like a scene out of Apocalypse Now.

With zero visibility in the snow you don't have much choice, if you stop, you'll get slammed from behind, much like you do when you visit all those after-hours joints after 2am.
I drove home from work in that. A 6 minute drive took 20 minutes. I was lucky in that the wind was so strong it was blowing the snow of the road leaving a narrow strip of clear road to aim at. Had a few brief whiteouts on the way but kept moving. Got close to town and almost hit the road closed sign, I was in the middle of the road. Spent a lot of Christmas swapping horror stories about last Friday.

Glad you got thru it
