I think the problem here Kendal is that we are not really talking about "a way of life" that is 'chosen' by someone. Given the prejudice that has existed in society against gay people for centuries - why would anyone actually 'choose' to be gay? We are talking about something that is innate - and I think that this assertion (given the overwhelming supporting evidence) is now beyond contradiction. This is why so-called 'conversion therapy' doesn't work. That is also why referring to homosexuality as "abnormal" is intellectually bankrupt. I expect better from you.

We are talking about someone not having to hide their true self/feelings from others in order to conform to a 'normal' template - just to avoid abuse and discrimination - which, I suspect, is almost certainly the path that (who knows how many) professional gay footballers must've chosen hitherto. Now that is not natural and it should not be "normal"...

How is it natural ? its definitely abnormal otherwise we wouldn't be talking about it. Its all about procreating, gay people can't, so they would be extinct for it was normal. Sex is for pleasure only with them.

If your definition of "normal" is vaginal sex only, I hope every time you've been offered a blow job you've turned it down on moral grounds.

For as long as mankind has been around they've been sticking their dick in any hole that is warm. It happens all across the natural world in animals. By definition it is normal.

Sorry Briz I can't agree with that, homosexuality can in no way be described as normal simply because most people are not homosexual therefore by definition it must be abnormal. I can understand why that form of words can be upsetting for some but to dismiss an argument as intellectually bankrupt just because you don't agree is a very poor reply. I can see where Bnet and Kendall are coming from insofar that it all seems like a fuss about nothing and quite frankly I really can't understand why it makes national news. We all ought to be going about our business respecting others and accepting that some people just don't like you because you are white, black, C of E Catholic, hetero or homosexual, Conservative, Labour, Royalist, Nationalist or ride your bikes 2 abreast but never regarding them as inferior or that they are a target for ridicule.
Closing debates down because we don't see eye to eye or "reading" what isn't really there to suit an argument seems to me little better that the pub bigot who can shout the loudest and longest

Every other outlets have openly gay people.
Music.
Media.

Why can it be accepted as a stereotype that all women footballers are lesbian? Yes a percentage are, no one bats an eyelid. Still being gay.

If it helps this young man be able to live his life without the fear of being "outed" then good for him.

The issue as I see it there are rather a lot of liberal free thinking open minded intellectuals who are queuing up to dismiss the beliefs of an awful lot of Muslims and Catholics with a few presses of their keyboards. Iā€˜m not taking sides here just pointing out that it is far from simple and dismissing other arguments as out of touch is in fact also being out of touch

Homosexuals aren't a separate species who can become extinct. It's just a difference in sexual preferences which, as has been covered, is not a choice, you're born that way. In the same way that someone with mental health issues of some form of physical disability will not choose to have them. Just as people with abnormal cell growth will not choose cancer and shouldn't be discriminated against.
What the lad at Blackpool has done should be so routine we shouldn't even need to hear it, but precisely because for generations many people have sneered at something they don't understand or like, it is notable. It is news, it should be commended and he deserves support for risking those who believe him "abnormal" having a go. It's the 21st century.
