My uncle was gay, when I was a kid he was always over at the weekends. Taught me fencing (not the garden fence variety).

Didn't turn me gay, or remotely curious. How can it be "normalising" when diaries as far back as the ancient Egyptians speak about being gay?

l didn't say it doesn't exist, l said its not normal and it isn't. I do not care what anyone does, its up to them. l don't want to know what you or anyone else like to do in the bedroom, its up to you, as l said l like Batman but who cares !

I have a black friend, no sorry l meant l have 3 gay relatives, l don't give a fuck, why should l. Its not normal and there's no way anyone can tell you it is, doesn't make them bad people, its that people should keep their private lives to themselves.

I’m going to preface my comments by stating that two of my siblings are gay, so I am biased. I also live in the US, so I am not necessarily in touch with how the media is portraying this whole issue in the UK.

That said, I don’t think the issue is about normalizing anything. I think the gay community just wants to be able to live their lives out in the daylight, rather than in the shadows, or in the closet, and I for one, am OK with that.

In sport in general, and football in particular, players have simply not been comfortable doing this. We all know why. Which is what makes what this 17 year-old young man has just done today remarkable and extraordinarily brave. He is, hopefully, the first of many that will step out of the dark.

Trying to suppress or asking people to hide who they really are is not ‘normal’ IMHO.

Good luck to the lad, I for one couldn’t give a monkeys if he is gay, but he has the right to live without fear or prejudice. Quite why people feel threatened by it is beyond me.

Isn’t the main point that the culture in football over the last 100 years at least has been to ruthlessly & aggressively take the piss out of any suggestion of homosexuality. Certainly that’s true in the crowd and I suspect among players themselves. This has made it impossible for anyone to admit they are gay, everyone had to conform to the ‘one of the lads’ heterosexual stereotype. That must have been pretty horrible for the people involved and I think it is quite a good thing if it is starting to change. This lad has opened himself up to massive abuse .. hope he copes ok.
 
Probably some think I'm a bad person I don't know you see I'm an old dinosaur plenty of today's life irritates me gay people were ostracised in my youth .....heard about it but never came into contact with until I got conscripted that opened my eyes to the world .....but I'm still a dinosaur and hate the gender games being played out and publisized along with what I call abnormal serial behavior

I have no problem with any person male or female as a human being, what I dislike is a way of life they choose, the act as far as I am concerned is-unnatural
We all have dislikes in many different forms of our lives and that what defines us, this is just an opinion not a hatred.
 
Firstly well done to the young lad for coming out publicly and whilst still young. I really hope his teammates in particular, support him.

Hopefully in football we’re finally moving on from where we were. Black players in the 70/80’s were treated appallingly as we know. Now thankfully anyone who makes a racist comment is immediately dealt with like at the Everton match at the weekend. I sincerely hope the authorities do the same if any remarks/songs are said about this young lad.
Thomas Hitzlsperger came out when he retired but remarked that he knew of at least one if not more gay players at every PL club when he was at Villa. But not one including him dare come out publicly
I hope more high profile players now have the chance to be honest without prejudice.

Finally for some to say being gay isn’t ‘normal’? What’s normal?

no, l ask questions l don't accept anything at face value.

Its normal to just go along with the press's orders of what's right or wrong, l ask questions, and l actually ask you all a question in my first post but now one answered it.

Harwich tell me why we have to know someones sexual preferences, what's yours ?
