Well that was a car crash of a meeting with the Parliamentary Sub-Committee on diversity in sport!!!
Its almost as if he wanted to jack it in and go out in a blaze of notoriety.

Some well known politicians could learn a thing or two about resigning when you fuck up.

SSN are making the most of it again. You would have thought he had shot some one. His language was some what non PC and you are right with the I have had enough of it get me outer here.
He is going back into the business world, so that is alright then?

He referred to coloured footballers. I'm sure that it was merely an old bloke using old fashioned, inappropriate language rather than hidden racism, but credit for recognising his failing and resigining immediately, unlike Lord Kilclooney the looney yesterday.

What did he call them?
Called black players Coloured people.
Said Gay players was a life choice.
Said female players didn't like the ball kicked hard at them.
Said in FA IT dept there were loads of South Asians but very few Afro Caribbeans and that was a career choice.

I'm sure that was his plan, after the 'controversy' about his role in Project 'Power for the Big Six'...

Re the female offence what he said was that a female coach had told him young girls didn't want to play in goal cos they didn't like the ball kicked at them. Hardly that bad surely

Saying it back some years ago. Or over a pint in the pub a few years ago not too bad.
But saying it before a Parliamentary Committee on Diversity in Football??????

agree with filbo, i reckon he knew his time was up after the Big Picture (pretending he had no idea what was going on, then subsequently found to be leading voice). FA probably couldn't wait to get rid.

I think he only resigned after the FA Board held an emergency meeting in the aftermath of his remarks.

To my ears, the stereotyping between South Asians and Afro-Caribbeans was much less defensible than his saying “coloured” rather then eg “people of colour”. But he was already on shaky ground following his role in Big Picture

And yet the leader of the Catholic Church in England & Wales has been found to care more about the impact of child sex abuse on the Church's reputation than on the victims

And refuses to resign

I wonder which story will get the most column inches

It's because of attitudes like that from people in positions of power like Greg Clarke that the term 'white privilege' gets used.

Still at least he was balanced in that he had a go at women and gays as well.

Not sure how many businesses will want his name on the letter heading.

As Mrs Filbo said earlier, the most important thing is that a woman of colour can now get the gig.
Return of H Rabbatts, anyone?

Most people haven't been on awareness courses though Mick. You don't away with it nowadays by using the excuse that it was used in the past. My parents can't keep up with the ever changing terms but at 84 & 89 they no longer they're no longer receiving emails from work about what is no longer acceptable. Neither of them would claim that being gay is a life choice or that the colour of someone's skin determines what kind of job they can do.

What did John Barnes say Filbo?
Something along the lines of it being a problem in society rather than just football?
I think it was on the 4pm news – might've been 3pm, if you want to listen on Sounds.
In short, he was saying he'd rather everyone concentrate on the more important matter – of saving football clubs from going bust, which is what the meeting was meant to be about. He acknowledged the challenge of all older generations keeping up with this year's PC term, and also cited the continuing South African use of the term 'coloured'.

The Big Picture though is where will it lead to, there are far more offensive matters going on in todays brutal world

Christ it was more peaceful In wartime than it is today,
