One thing don't think Enzo would give him a place in the starting line-up that's for sure
I am not so sure about that. I think he'd walk into the team now if he was as he was the first 2 & a half seasons (& frankly in this division maybe the way he was in the last couple of seasons too) and we'd definitely benefit from someone able to control the ball & see a pass as quickly as he can (and the fitness regime now would suit him better too). On his day (and there were a lot of those those first 2 and a half seasons) he was one of the best players I have seen at Leicester.

BUT the drop off in performance during the last season in particular was obviously increasingly marked and, when taking into account his time before he joined us, it is hard to get past the impression that if he's not feeling the love, feeling unsettled and/or not happy he ain't going to be able to do it. That sounds obvious I know but the frustration (for me) is that it feels like, even more than Rodgers leadership, he was the creator of that uncertainty and that is what really pisses me off.

Not that I care but the issue for Villa is, if he is feeling unsettled already and he feels like even when he's making appearances (as Villa will need him to) it won't be enough to get him a starting place in the other games regardless of performance it could go very wrong very quickly for him there.

Depends Hackney l think but don't know but I think he's lost the love of playing football he looked completely disinterested at times down here, as though that was the case

I know what you mean Mick but I reckon Buz has summed it up.
As mentioned on the previous thread he’s not great if he doesn’t play regularly so that’s not promising for his future at Villa. They’ve made a mistake and should have embedded him in the starting eleven before the season started. If they then didn’t think he was up to it after a few PL games then drop him, trying to introduce him at this stage is unlikely to work.
Perhaps we can get him back on loan in January.

We’re sadly missing his creativity, but not his couldn’t give a shit attitude. It was quite clear he was never going to sign a contract extension so that should have been addressed before he walked for nothing.

How do you address it though?
Think he’d had interest from clubs a year ago but not of the quality he was hoping for. We can’t force better clubs to make a move for him and can’t force him to join a club he doesn’t want to.
It’s a scenario that more and more clubs are having to face nowadays.

I agree. Paying big bucks for a mercenary will bite you towards the end of a contract. The alternative of buying young or developing also seems to have its problems when big clubs swoop on your kids.
Ah, sod it. Let’s just enjoy the ride. Que sera sera.

Never really thought of him as a mercenary, always seemed happy at the club and had a connection to the fans (as much ad any player does).
Rodgers probably changed all that, different manager and he may have been happy to stay and we may have been happy with that scenario.
As you say ‘sod it’ hopefully enjoy this season.

Buying into a attitude causes concern not just to his capabilities but to those who play with him. The plans of a team do revolve around someone with his strengths but if he is uncommitted strategies are gone and teamwork is comprimised

As I’m mentioned before through my Harvey Barnes connection, TCR stank the whole place out last season. Said the atmosphere at Seagrave was toxic. Everyone literally switched off and TCR didn’t give a stuff

He was pretty crap for 18 months and now surprised he can’t get into a middle of the road Premier League team. Seems to be totally deluded about his levels of performance. He should be a legend but seriously damaged his reputation with us with his half arsed performances last season. He should sod off abroad in my view where the games slower for him.

He had Rudkin by the balls after the Cup Final goal.
Hindsight is wonderful. With it we’d have flogged him the summer after that goal. We tried to keep our best players rather than keep with our plan to sell one star player each year and that was part of what eventually led to our relegation.

I don't believe we ever had a plan to sell one star player every year, it just panned out that way.
Kante went without much fuss, we missed him badly, Drinkwater wasn't missed. Mahrez finally got his own way after losing "two valuable years" of his career playing for us & Maguire was £80m we just couldn't turn down.
Schmeichel surprised me when he went to Nice but he is now finally at "a big club" Anderlecht.
As for this year's exits, I wish Maddison & Barnes the best but the memory of watching Youri perform at 10% of his best for the past two years makes me want him to fail, So far, he is.

It is. But if a player is stalling on signing a new contract then cash in and take the flak.
Football is a ruthless business..Rudkin isn't.
