It’s bonkers.

For many it’s 3 for and 2 against so even now after the incident they still can’t be fully sure.

And this whole thing about whether it was a clear and obvious error and therefore whether the VAR should be involved is a joke.

Just let the referee and if needed their assistants review the footage pitch side if they are unsure of a decision, and let’s get on with the game.

The biggest problem with VAR is its relationship to the onfield officials. This ‘clear and obvious error’ thing muddies the water. Worrying about overturning or not overturning the ref and assistant refs gets in the way of what should happen. Making the correct decision.

Exactly this. If we’re going to have VAR use it for good not have it as flaky as, well, a Flake.
