Var

Just so I know for future reference, offside is now given if they show a red line, yes?
It doesn’t matter that they were completely level as the picture shows, the proof is the graphics department putting a red line on the screen.
Just to add aswell, they’ve just shown jota’s goal for Liverpool which shows him offside with a green line on the screen.
Blatant cheating in front of your very faces.

I have to say, that when they showed the freeze frame without the lines drawn, I did think the Cov player was just offside. However it is when the ball is played.. ???????.
Reminded me of the Chilwell offside call that went our way at Wembley.

I don’t think It’s bent .. i think it is just crap which is worse.

It kills spontaneity, makes everything provisional, invites players to question every decision and gives an open goal for conspiracy theorists.

And it doesn’t even work. Everyone obsesses about the position of ‘the lines’ but who is to say that those lines were drawn at the exact microsecond the ball was played?

How on earth will there be enough refs (and assistants) to operate VAR in the championship? I guess they'll either be taking them from league one, or bringing them in from non league....either way its lowering the standard even further using guys that are past it, or not yet ready.

Just to add that the real problem here is decades of victim based moaning to some extent by fans and players but mainly by ego centric managers. In the end the ‘authorities’ were convinced that something was ‘wrong’ and came up with VAR. Guardiola has now turned his attention to scheduling.. something equally stupid will be devised to solve that ‘problem’ … then he will go onto the next thing.
Life isn’t always ‘fair’. .. grow up and accept it!

FWIW, If the PL got the groundsman to cut the pitch's in individual rows of 36" (like Wembley back in the day) that would help immensly, also with a cut both ways it would remove the need for the aerosol for free kicks.

Goal line technology was fine and but for one error in the first game back after the covid break, I think it's worked well.

VAR should be there for the clear egregious incidents, like violent off the ball stuff, a Thierry Henry handball type thing. That is all.

If the offside decisions were done by AI I would trust them more. Then you could be more sure the exact moment the player plays the ball forward is the same millisecond the film stops on the player who might be offside.
With the current built in human reaction error I’d give a 25 cm leeway

I’ve said there should be daylight between the defender and the attacker. Plus daylight between theYes they’d still be a few arguments but generally it would lead to more goals. There was NO advantage for the Cov player. None.

Just make the defenders line 3 times thicker than the attackers line, and it will absorb the margin of error whilst giving the attacker the benefit of any doubt. Would clear up the marginals in a heartbeat.

Except doing so would have robbed me of two of my favourite fa cup moments of the last 5 years.

who knows if the lines they draw are in the right place !

Footballs bent, so I'd presume they fuck around with it to suit,
And which frame is used. There can be a big difference just with one or two frame’s from when the ball leaves the foot especially if the forward is running through.
