The other 9/11

Watched a long news article on this subject on Al Jazeera in the early hours. With all his plans for social reform and nationalisation Jezza may well have got away with it pretty lightly

Many many years ago I worked with a guy who was heavily involved with the Workers Revolutionary Party. He insisted I read a book. The disappearance of Charles Horman. That shaped my way of thinking for a long time. Turned into a film with Jack Lemon and Sissy Spacek. They couldn’t get no backing and no big distributors would touch it.
Pinochet, friend of Thatcher. She didn’t choose her friends wisely.

Jack Lemmon my favourite actor. He starred with Lee Remick in Days Of Wine And Roses (1962) a powerful portrayal of a married couple in a downward spiral into alcoholism. His brilliantly acted scene as an alcoholic in a straight jacket, struggling against the nurses as they try to sedate him, in the ‘violent ward’ of a sanitarium is absolutely gut wrenching in it’s brutally realistic authenticity. Lemmon studied alcoholic’s in real life “drunk tanks” before filming.
Bill Withers while watching the film on television was inspired to write a song. In effect a tragic love story the doomed relationship at the core of the film brought to mind the phrase “ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone”. Withers wrote his song “Ain’t No Sunshine” in 1971.
